I have no objection to UK media outlets using the phrase 'Irish PM'. The Constitution describes the Taoiseach as a 'prime minister', & honestly, 'Taoiseach' is a mortifying kitsch neologism which encapsulates the state's devotion to symbolic & tokenistic embrace of the Irish
... language in place of any serious project of language revival
Another thing which mortifies me is the common practice of saying 'An Taoiseach' *when speaking in English*. It is every bit as pretentious and contrived as saying 'I am going to Le Restaurant'.

He also notes that Dail Eireann is a bit different, comes from a different stage of Irish history and is part of a more coherent politics. While Taoiseach comes from de Valera's 1937 constitution and is roughly translated as "chieftan" or "leader" which is perhaps a little problematic in retrospect

The only time I go to Montreal is to see a band I like play at a club on st Catharine's. I normally have a couple drinks after and walk to my hotel a few blocks away. Never felt more threatened than, say, Toronto. It's dingy. Lots of homeless and panhandling but I've never felt scared.

Downtown, somewhere along St-Denis and St-Catherine and wherever Les Fouf' is. I'd need Google Maps to get back there now.
