Strong winds created a very thick dust cloud at one of the Hungarian motorways on Saturday. 40 cars collided. I think no fatalities, amazingly, but about a dozen adults and I think 8 children are in serious condition.

He ran over people repeatedly for 900m.  He could have rented a cube truck to do it.
It doesn't have much to do with pick up trucks.  It's a very rural area, they are extremely useful.


Anyway, it's confirmed that he had some serious mental health issues.  We'll have to wait on next week to see if he's fit to appear in court.

Pickups are worse than other vehicles. The way their front is shaped makes them more likely to cause injury than typical rounded car bodies.
Also assuming there isn't a lunatic trying to hit people theyre far worse for seeing things like kids.

A mining truck is much worse but marketers haven't found a way to sell that to the masses yet.

I've seen statistics that says, in the USA, 75% of F-150 owners have never towed anything. 30% have never put anything in the truck bed. That's the real problem. People are buying pickup trucks when they should have bought a SUV. 😉

OK, I understand not pulling something.

But not put anything in the bed of your truck?  That's why you buy a truck!  I still wish I had a truck because of the times I wish I had a big truck bed to put stuff in.

Actually, those numbers  (67% seldom/never towing, 29% seldom/never hauling) are for all Ford F-series full-size pickups (they are the best-selling vehicle in Canada, as well) so not just a US thing.  The weird thing about the evolution of pickups is that, while they started at 2/3 bed by length, it's now 2/3 cab by length.  All with the same shitty gas mileage.  People are dum.

Down here they are practically a status symbol. It doesn't surprise me a bit that people buy a big F-250 and just drive it around as their car and never or rarely ever do anything practical with it truck-wise.
