PDOs do nothing for a consumer but take a larger cut out of their wallets. Consumers are smart enough to figure out what brands are crap like we do with everything else.

 I love how Europeans think that they will get a rise out of Americans by slagging MacDonald's.  You blockade any fast food restaurant you wish, with my blessing.

That doesn't take away the fact that PDOs are a scam.

PDOs are just a variation of trademarks. I don't see why they should be so challenging to respect.

Oh it's not about getting a rise out of Americans. It's about performing the customary rituals of Europeans to oppose Americanisation/mondialisation. It is protest kabuki :P

If you drink a lot of wine.
If you don't then labels matter.

PDOs don't use trademark law.  They use laws passed to protect specific special interests, as the new Russian law demonstrates.

Trademarks are part of international intellectual property regulations; PDOs are just European law (or national laws in the cases of non-EU PDOs, like the Russian example).

It is not a big deal. The "Greek style salad cheese" sits right next to the "feta cheese" in Aldi and Lidl; I believe it is 10p cheaper. Superior to both (and more expensive) is the Yorkshire Fettle that had to change its name a few years back https://www.shepherdspurse.co.uk/products/yorkshire-fettle?variant=12193896956027

The big name in fizzy plonk here in the UK is prosecco; though I think that cava is badly under-rated.

....and Europeans got thoroughly Americanised decades back so it is verging on churlish to get het up about a few cheese and wine names  :P

Yeah, I'm not going to remember all those different brands. Especially when it comes to cheeses, which often don't even have one.
But if the label says Parmigiano Reggiano, I know it is not going to be a crap Parmesan.

Not sure what's the aim of that post, I guess just to be viral.

This seems disingenous, people remember brands all the time. You don't need to remember all of them, just a core set of brands that you trust/like.
