I always assumed that Pidgin was a generic term rather than a specific language. Is it official anywhere in the world?

Pidgin is a generic term for a simplified system of communication between two languages - it cannot fulfill all the functions of a language, but it does allow trade/interaction between groups.

Nigerian Pidgin apparently is a creole language, which arises from when a pidgin evolves into a more stable language with more ability to function as a true language.
I have come to believe that the whole world is an enigma, a harmless enigma that is made terrible by our own mad attempt to interpret it as though it had an underlying truth.

Isn't it Malay or Indonesian that started as a pidgin language for traders? Or is that totally wrong?

Hell, I never studied too much ethno-linguistics.  All I know is that the term pidgin supposedly came about as a chinese pronunciation of the word "business."  A couple of decades of learning and all I have left is trivia.

Apparently it is used by some Nigerians as their first language.

Another deep cut in France's culture wars. The guy arrested today for slapping Macron apparently shouted "Montjoie Saint Denis" when slapping him

Between this and fights between Catholics and the left over memories of the Commune, I have to ask if France is okay

Malay and Swahili both did.  Despite being non-Indo European languages they're supposed to be fairly easy for English speakers to learn.  (They both use a Latin alphabet for one.)  The US Foreign Service Institute they require about 900 hours of study, as compared to 600 for something like Spanish or Dutch.
In Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love, they had five hundred years of democracy and peace—and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock

Well, at least now La Raie Publique en Marche (Macron's party) won't deny the rise of insecurity or violence in France.  :P
Cell phone video inside. Le Figaro.fr says they could part of the nebulous, yellow vest web.

Marine did not approve the violent act, thankfully.

PS: à bas la Macronie !  :P

We need to ask Hilário. ;)

Hey! Despite growing up with azoreans I speak proper Portuguese (my father was from Lisbon). Granted it's the Portuguese spoken in the 60s, but still :P

There's a father/son channel on YouTube doing reactions to metal videos. The dad has a slight accent that sounded familiar but I couldn't quite place it till he mentioned in some video that he's from Portugal. :D

When did books start having 90 second movie style trailers?`

Live action book trailers are hardly new. I started noticing them maybe 10 years ago.
