Yeah, I read somewhere recently that, even if it was iconic back int he day it's very difficult to show it to young people nowadays because broadcasting many of the early episodes is highly problematic.

Yeah, over here there are regular petitions for the Catalan TV to show it again, but it's just too problematic. The latter series (from Dragonball Z onwards) are less reliant on pervying but very high on violence (and some extreme violence at that), which is also an issue. I suppose they would have to show it outside of the protected schedules.

I mean the show was already controversial 20-30 years ago. Imagine today...

Yeah, what I read about the unsuitability of the earlier episodes because of their sexual content and general perviness was also in the context of petitions for the show to be broadcasted again (there's a big push for increased children's content in the regional tv, and the show is iconic because of its massive success in the 90s, it is said that it was one of the main drivers for my generation's fluency in Galician  ).

I think they did plenty of "creative" dubbing back in the day, in order to bypass some of the controversial stuff, and even cut some of the racier stuff from the episodes.

Yeah, they did the same here. Vegeta's sanitized Catalan dialogue is a meme among my generation. I think they cut some of the pervy scenes in re-runs, too.

That show is one of the treasured memories of my childhood (always watched it with my brother after school), but at the same time I remember how we used to "play Dragonball" by literally fighting each other. So I can understand the concerns.

Aaah, early Telecinco, when even kid's shows had to feature boobs.

The only thing I remember about the Galician dub of Dragonball was the really way out of key intro song.  :D

Catalan children programming was far more clean and pruddish. Which is weird given they also showed Dragonball nearly 24/7. Now that's a questionable show
So I remember it being fairly fun and light - so did a quick search. Thrilled to discover that the Singing Kettle is still going and they still do loads of live shows all around Scotland.

First line when the host gets the kids ready to "PUSH PUSH" - and she starts with "put your hands in the air. Great - now give me your wallets" Something very Scottish about a joke about mugging 4 year olds.

And, in the grand tradition of panto dames, the granny is played by a man with a beard who flirts with at least one dad in the audience.

Edit: On granny's day "she's been to the bingo. She's been to the dance. She's even gone and got herself a kebab"

Yup, Berlusconi really pushed hard on the "Italian" model of TV when the station opened in Spain. Over time they had to move on because that model was not well accepted, but the early-mid 90s was the heydey of the "Tetacinco" era. When I moved to Italy and first saw TV there it felt like travelling back in time.

Singing kettle was a big favourite with my eldest boy. Not sure he saw it on broadcast TV, but we had some VHS tapes. Of course he has a Scottish granny who would join in the granny song with gusto...the other granny being English just added to the fun  :)

And she's still stunning nowadays, in her early 50s.

Everyone sneers about the avocado bathroom suites; but, at some point, millions of people spent good money to install them  :o

So many victims of fashion.

The question to be asked is what is the current equivalent of the avocado bathroom suite? For domestic places I reckon it is laminate flooring, a cheap and horrible substitute for renovating old wood floors or replacing them properly.

I dunno about now, but a couple of decades ago it was marble countertops and stainless steel appliances for kitchens. They were everywhere on new Renos. If they go out of style, it will be an issue.

They have problems - marble is pretty porous and needs maintenance, and fingerprints show up easily on stainless - it needs to be wiped a lot.

I am convinced that open plan is a trend that everyone will turn against (possibly in response to having to wfh more) and that people will be getting the builders in to re-create rooms before long.

Edit : Also kitchen islands <_<

Rich people already do that. Newer mansion have 2nd kitchens were you do the real cooking. It's going to spread & in ~25 years, we'll be back to closed floor plans.

I hate open plan already, but especially because here in England I think it is not a design choice but a cheap excuse to sell sub-par tiny flats for ridiculous prices.

Disagree.  Move to open kitchens just reflects changes in society.  Back when cooking was women's work and women were homemakers, the kitchen was to be hidden away.  Now with 2 working partners much more entertaining either happens in the kitchen, or the person cooking does not want to be walled away from everyone else in the family.  I mean this is a trend that probably goes back at lest 30 years and is still going strong.

Tend to agree about marble countertops though.

I find kitchen islands are just more convenient. If my kitchen was walled off I would spend more time just taking things to/from the dining room.

Dining room? OK fancy pants.
