According to Otto von Pivka the other ranks wore bicorns till 1800 when they were replaced with the tall shakoes seen in the pic.

Earlier than I thought, but still not early enough for the events in Warleggan (1794?).

This uniform type with the tall shako. I know that the English were using red uniform coats for longer than that.

Well, a quick wiki-check gives that the stovepipe choke was introduced in 1799 and principally used in the napoleonic war. So I would guess that you are correct, the uniforms don't seem to be period correct given that Poldark is set in the aftermath of the American revolution.

Of course, it's season whocares and time may have flied to the 19th century.

It seems that they are filming season 5 and have not yet revealed which books/period they intend to cover. Apparently the next book starts in 1810, which makes the uniforms correct.

That's what I found on Wiki, too. I haven't followed Poldark (or knew about its existence :P ). Is it worth watching?

I gave up after three episodes, it seemed to be a bit of a soap opera. But it has pretty high scores from imdb and what have you. I might have been being excessively crusty.

Oh, i also remember a rather acerbic comment made in one review, something like "......I don't like it when the leading man has bigger boobs than the leading lady ......"

She has red hair though Syt

Wasn't that an apocryphal quote from a review by Groucho Marx about Victor Mature's "Samson and Delilah"?

Richard Hakluyt

I think you are right; I can't recall if the recycler gave Groucho the credit though.

One can see the shades of less notorious Presidents in the background...but who is the identical, out of place mystery woman?

Solved my own question (thanks Google).

Quote"That will be the first Republican female president and the first Democratic female president," he explained. "As I was doing the painting, I was thinking that these guys are kind of intimidating in a way. That's the kind of woman that will be our first woman president; she'll walk right up to that table."

Glad to see Wilson and Jackson getting along so well with Obama. Also: Grover Cleveland deserves better.

I like how the drinks are often drinks associated with the President: Obama with his beer and FDR with his martini.

And Trump with a coke. :D

I find it weird that Grant isn't holding a drink, though. :P
