I didn't realize Languish had 10 posters ready to enter college this year, much less 10 that had been accepted into Harvard.

I may be going back to college this year.   I'm in the process of clearing up the student debt.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

I always thought he looked like a waiter in that white uniform.

If the Germans had just worn those uniforms they would not have been the baddies.

The SS really went out of their way to set the tone for a century of ready-made cinematic bad guys, didn't they.  :D

Nothing says "bad guy" quite like an all-black uniform with a silver skull motif. Designed by Hugo Boss.

Ugh.  Suspicious package found downtown, one building evacuated, roads closed, people in nearby buildings being told to go back inside and close their doors and all that.   I assume this means the people in cubicle-land will all die.

E: Oh it's right across the street from the Alamo. E2:  Ohhhh it's a Federal building.

E3:  Er....now the helicopter turned it's camera in another direction and there's a house burning down a couple miles away and they're talking about another fire elsewhere in the area.   wtf is going on down there

Damn that sucks:

Valmy

Are they connected? Hopefully nobody is hurt.

Any update on the package?

Oh sorry about that.  I left work and forgot all about everything on the way home.  Was playing some Strike Fighters :P

They don't appear to be connected, just weird coincidental timing.  The bomb squad apparently detonated the package in place and SAPD arrested some guys.  "Foreign nationals" attempting to mail something from the post office in that building, no explosives in the package.

The house seems to have been vacant at the time, so that's good.  It was being remodeled by the owners and whoever's car that is parked right there is going to need some work done though.  That's a really poor neighborhood.  The other fire was a dumpster or something that ended up burning out the lot it sitting was in.  The FD guys downtown were busy today.

Ok so it looks like just some weird shit and nobody got hurt. I was thinking 'first they hit Iran then they hit the Alamo!'

See? Weird shit happens and I immediately think ISIS. The terrorists have won.

I appreciated your Languish-esque takedown of that Austin-hating bastard on the Shag btw.

Still smarting over the mean things the Governor said about us.

Yeah, it was alarming for a minute there.  Helo flying around over a building while cops and fireman swarm around and talking about evacuations and sheltering in place and all that, then the camera zooms out and turns, and there's another big fire going on.

They still haven't said what the package was, but it seems it triggered a response after going through the x-ray machine.

  This place is definitely an interesting influence on posting style, that is for sure.   I've noticed some people on other boards aren't prepared for some serious business like that, especially over relatively trivial things.

Abbott was being super weird about that "People's Republic of Austin" stuff.  That little joke has been around for a while, but he's talking about feeling free when he leaves and such.  Whatever, dude.   Well, unless he was thinking about the traffic when he blurted that out, then....well I get it.

E:  Wait, or did he say something else?  He's probably butthurt about that sanctuary city lawsuit that SA and Austin are throwing at him/the state, so I wouldn't be surprised if he blabbed something about that too.

He said we are rotting from within and we stink of...um...government regulation or something. Since we had the second highest economic growth in the nation last year while the rest of the state went through an economic decline I don't think our rot has set in quite yet.

Though the State has been very slow to expand our highways, which is a big contributor to our traffic problems (Well that and how Texas cities are designed and the failed policies of our city government). Considering how badly the State has been aiding Austin and its surrounding areas managing its growth I think he probably should shut the fuck up about 'rotting from within'. Anyway we are about to be blasted economically from his stupid bathroom bill. I guess that will show us.

We expect to be killed by other Americans. Being killed by foreigners is unacceptable.

Hey maybe he won't run for re-election next year!  Except that might mean Dan Patrick will instead.  Yikes.

The takeaway is that while the amount of spending per GDP need to be improved, even more significant is encouraging unified procurement across Europe.
