The Socialist Party is near dismantling itself over a sale of the state energy company to Goldman Sachs. They'll likely leave the government and we'll have to go through another election. :weep:

Yikes.

But it does seem wacky for socialists to be selling the national energy company to Goldman Sachs, so the self-dismantling isn't that surprising is it?

What's wrong with repeats of Midsomer Murders? :ultra:

Edit: The more I read the more I hate that article. The Italians have very low private debt, one of the lowest in the EU and they have assets - hence the world's third largest market for government bonds. Don't really care about the environment. It seems ridiculous to attack Danes simultaneously for privatisation (which isn't always bad) and paying high taxes (ditto). Also the Danes have newspapers - how unfortunate.

The racism and pig farming criticisms seem legit though :P

To me, it rings of an expat going through the classic phase of becoming irritable and hypercritical with his new country.

Not surprising at all, they should've left the government long ago so they wouldn't have had to agree to this sale (and all the other stuff that's been wearing them down). When they do it like this one day before the vote it's way more destructive.

You sure you got that right Liep?  Goldman Sachs isn't in the utility buying business.

Maybe they're trying to broker a private equity deal, or underwrite an IPO?

Liep

It's definitely Goldman Sachs, leading to the tabloid headline: Goldman Suchs plans to channel money through Luxembourg to avoid Danish taxes.

I don't doubt GS is involved, just questioning their role.

Well, an affiliate of GS that is based in Luxembourg. Also infuriating the socialists with its Danish tax avoidance. :P

EDIT: I didn't really pay much attention to this until I started fearing for a new election.  :yucky:

Now the Biebs is to be charged with assault of a limo driver in Canada? :(

Oh yeah, heard on CNN that they're considering deporting the Biebs.

I just applied for a job in Alabama...  :alberta:

You will be asked which football program you support. The answer is either 'Alabama' or 'Auburn'. Soccer answers will get you lynched.

So will 'Clemson' or 'Florida'.  Probably 'Florida State' right now, too.

Honestly, you really can't expect a great entertainment industry from a country of 5 million. Canada is much bigger and they can't come up with anything better than Rush.
Rush is good.  Don't be that guy.
I do not hate you, nor do I love you, but you are made out of atoms which I can use for something else.

Mr. President, just this once take a hard line stand on immigration and America will love you forever.

They're ok. Besides, I was being charitable. I could have instead pointed out that Canada gave us Nickelback, Justin Bieber and Celine Dion.
