There are some places that just stick with you after a visit. Be it having had a very good time, seeing something very different or just walking through history.

I'd mention Ragusa/Dubrovnik as number one. Very well kept, despite the Yugoslav Army's bombardments. When you see the surrounding landscape, you kind of understand it was a hard city to conquer. Old town Rhodes is a good shout. The museum is great. It's one of the better kept crusader fortresses. London, for obvious reasons. Its size does not diminish the sheer feeling of walking through history. Rome, although it wasn't as great as I had hoped. Athens was just too Greek. Riga was kind of nice.

I'd like to go to Malta some day. Next trip is to Ljubljana, Slovenia, though. International Festival FTW.

I'm not sure what to say here. Is it just cities that particularly stood out? I think I'm have had unforgettable experiences in most major cities I've lived in/visited.

For places that really "stick" with you, I guess I'm going to go with places attached to tragedy.  Sure, happy fun vacations are absolutely wonderful, but when you get that little kick in the guts while you're visiting a palce, that's hard to forget.

Auschwitz, and New York City in November, 2001.

I've still yet to go to Ragusa :(

I'd say I guess Nara- deer roaming the streets. What more do you need.

Carcassonne (yes, it is Disney-medieval, but an epic sight nonetheless), Hong Kong (esp the view from Victoria Peak, but also just waking the streets), and London (loved living there - so walkable!) are three cities that i say live up to their hype.  Prague and Dubrovnik are on the to-do list.

As long as I live I will never forget the picture of very attractive women wearing garter belts, miniskirts, and long coats in Aix-en-Provence.

I agree with Assisi, London and Rome.  I would also add Berlin and for Roman ruins enthusiasts, Trier.

Assisi.
I loved Assisi too, but I think as far as Italy goes I'd have to pick Rome.

In terms of cities I'd never forget for negative reasons... Cleveland. :Embarrass:

Yeah.  Shame about all of the Frenchies there, though. :(

You will like it. I'd move there if I could.

You have to do your best to ignore the Mordor-like Trg Republike sitting in the middle of a city that would otherwise look like Florence.
