In your opinion, what is the primary reason for statistical prevalence of black males being killed by cops in the US?

Black males are more likely to commit crimes or act irresponsibly than males of other ethnic groups
19 (65.5%)
There is no statistical prevalence in reality - the media just report about deaths of black males more than about deaths of other people killed by cops
4 (13.8%)
There is a bias among police force against black males, resulting in unequal treatment / perception of threat
17 (58.6%)
Other (Describe)
6 (20.7%)

Point is, a volunteer police force is always going to be well-stocked in people with the desire to exercise power through violence.
In my personal experience this is not the case. I certainly never got this vibe from the RCMP. They may well attract such people, but IMO a proper western police organization will weed out/ train out this mentality.

If the documentaries "Police Academy" one to four are anything to go by, the training in the US isn't that great and the instructors mildly stupid. And the cadets too.

They can get away with it.

They'd be able to get away with shooting lots of white people too, but it's less sure.

I voted 1,3 and 4 but Ide comes closer. I don't think it's really about blacks so much as it's about cops.

I think it is for about three clear reasons, none of which are reflected in the Polish assessment of US society on the topic.

If someone wants to start a serious conversation on the topic, I'd be glad to participate.

Care to enlighten us?

1. Excessive employment of ad hominem and argument from authority fallacies by black males in their interaction with the police.
2.  Lack of police naval gunfire support in predominantly black neighborhoods.
3. Failure of police departments in predominantly black neighborhoods to properly implement Hohfeldian ethical training programs.

I don't know the facts, so I have no basis for answering. Surely there are facts relating to the answer.

I'd be interested in hearing what you have to say.

There is no doubt that blacks disproportionately commit crimes.

That they disproportionately get caught and prosecuted for committing crimes, there is certainly no doubt.  But I wouldn't be so sure blacks actually commit many more crimes that whites.  A significantly bigger percentage of whites than blacks use (and therefore buy) drugs, and they use more drugs, more often.

[And if you adjusted for poverty, I'd bet even the "getting caught" rate would be close to equal for black and white Americans; though adjusting for poverty kind of defeats the purpose, or one of them.

Context, maybe?  Methods?  Nah?

True.  But to be fair more evidence than you provided.

Yeah, I'm just going off things I remember hearing/learning, that is true.  But Eddie dipped in for one of those wordless "smackdown" posts, which ideally gets some "PWN3D" fanfare for the poster if it's a success, and his was a pretty weak showing.

I mean when even establishment types like Henry Louis Gates Jr and garbon complain about the police you know there is some sort of profiling going on.

Maybe the lesson is that people with my skin tone aren't supposed to drive BMWs.

:yeahright: I think your dismissal of his showing rings a little hollow.

It's true that you didn't have to provide a source for your statistics when you mentioned them, but once someone else did, making a couple of "meh, weak" replies rather than posting a chart of your own loses big points.
