In your opinion, what is the primary reason for statistical prevalence of black males being killed by cops in the US?

Black males are more likely to commit crimes or act irresponsibly than males of other ethnic groups
19 (65.5%)
There is no statistical prevalence in reality - the media just report about deaths of black males more than about deaths of other people killed by cops
4 (13.8%)
There is a bias among police force against black males, resulting in unequal treatment / perception of threat
17 (58.6%)
Other (Describe)
6 (20.7%)

The total number is so statistically small that it is hard to say.

I would say it is primarily a result of the adversarial relationship between the police and blacks that occasionally escalate.  Combine this with the machismo of some lower class communities in this country you get trouble.

I mean when even establishment types like Henry Louis Gates Jr and garbon complain about the police you know there is some sort of profiling going on.  I also think police equipment, training. and recruitment have a lot to do with it as well.

It is obviously a problem so I hope authorities realize how socially destabilizing it is to have this adversarial relationship and work hard to build trust in the police.  Society cannot really function without it, if the cops continue to foster a reputation for racism and unaccountable violence on US citizens...well it cannot be good.  No matter how much the Spicey's of the world continue to make excuses and bury their heads in the sand about it.

So I guess I vote one and three.

I think it is for about three clear reasons, none of which are reflected in the Polish assessment of US society on the topic.

If someone wants to start a serious conversation on the topic, I'd be glad to participate.

What if I was the one to start the serious topic?
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

Maybe,

Breakdown of the family unit
Glorification of stereotype lifestyles
Vicious cycle of hopelessness to better their individual station in life

We are talking about Blacks, not red neck gun nuts.

I figured it was going to wait until page 3 or 4 before Martinus came out with the original intent of this thread, which would be about him/his lifestyle/his career.  :P

Read the question on the poll carefully as it could not fit in the thread title in its entirety.

You can choose more than one option if you believe this is a combination of several causes, and you are unable to identify one primary cause.
A little bit of the 3 first.

Black people feel ostracized, so when confronted by a cop, especially if they feel they have done nothing wrong, they are more likely to react agressively than white citizens.
Cops are used to young black people being armed, because of street gangs, and in the event of anything suspect they shoot first ask questions later, given that firearmes are freely available anywhere in the US.
