I don't do meditation.  I drink alcohol to relax, like normal people.

If Microsoft Excel decided to stop working overnight, the world would practically end.

Interesting that Fico is changing opinion. The checks must have stopped clearing.

"But I didn't vote for him"; they cried.

I don't know if Ukraine is ever going to recover from this war, but at least they did the world a great service by fucking over Russia on the way out.

The latest population estimates in Ukraine suggest that they will never recover to pre-war levels, absent a massive baby boom or return of literally all the diaspora. It's tragic, but still better than giving in to Russia.
The medievals were only too right in taking nolo episcopari as the best reason a man could give to others for making him a bishop. Give me a king whose chief interest in life is stamps, railways, or race-horses; and who has the power to sack his Vizier (or whatever you care to call him) if he does not like the cut of his trousers.

Government is an abstract noun meaning the art and process of governing and it should be an offence to write it with a capital G or so as to refer to people.

Thinking of the Ukrainians who have come to Canada during the war, they have been here long enough now to start families and careers.  This has largely become home. My guess is few would return after the war - whenever that might happen.  Also, many will likely make the judgment that they can do more good by sending money back home from the income they make from the jobs they have now in Canada.

In several surveys, the overwhelming first choice for what makes Canada unique is multiculturalism. This, in a world collapsing into stupid, impoverishing hatreds, is the distinctly Canadian national project.

That was very interesting. I hope Western defence departments are paying attention. It makes Ukraine even more valuable to us, without them as a shield we would not have this opportunity to catch up. Self-interest dictates that we should subsidise and support them; morality too of course, but that doesn't seem to bother much of the West's population.

I read somewhere else that the Ukrainians can defeat 95% of the Shahed type drones with counter drones now. It's amazing and frightening what kind of technological progress a hot near peer conflict creates.
