The death of Nelson Mandela is a big story, but according to the BBC it's the only story.

I've just spent some minutes replaying the BBC news stream and I can't find any other news being covered, not even the weather forecast.

I assume they had plenty of material already recorded and ready to role for this sad event.

My question is what sort of bias and perspective do you expect your news coverage to have ?

National vs international, breaking vs long term trends, serious vs celebrity content, what mix would you choose ?

Far more important than MLK.

That is hardly fair to MLK, Mandela had 56 more years to do important things.

True, but I do hear he spent at least one night in a Birmingham Jail.

To me Mandela is who we wish revolutionaries would be, most of them turn out more like Mugabe or Lenin.

Unlike MLK, Mandela was a terrorist.
Yeah, but he won.  There's nothing inherently immoral about terrorism.
I do not hate you, nor do I love you, but you are made out of atoms which I can use for something else.

"According to the CIA's 1987 damage assessment of Pollard's crimes, which was declassified on December 14, 2012, Pollard was not asked by his Israeli handlers to gather information on U.S. military activities, but rather to collect U.S. intelligence on Arab states, Pakistan and the Soviet Union, and especially their weapons systems.[126]"

Far more important than MLK.
I don't know if I buy that. Someone who has a significant impact on the U.S., or India or China for that matter, is likely to have more impact on the world than some one who has a massive impact on a country like South Africa.
It is far better for the truth to tear my flesh to pieces, then for my soul to wander through darkness in eternal damnation.

Jet: So what kind of woman is she? What's Julia like?
Faye: Ordinary. The kind of beautiful, dangerous ordinary that you just can't leave alone.
Jet: I see.
Faye: Like an angel from the underworld. Or a devil from Paradise.
