Just discovered this fantastic band, Eluveitie, from Switzerland.

How could the Celts lose with such great music??  :P

Now, might not please death/grindcore fans, but most metal fans should appreciate :)

Love them. Seen them live in 2008 and 2010. Their insane flute playing Serb twins were fun, but they're no longer with the band.

Inis Mona is one of my favorite metal songs ever.

it's a great song too. I hesitate between Inis Mona and Slanais song.  I wish that stuff was popular over here :(

Folk metal is pretty popular as "party" metal here. The Heidenfest/Paganfest tour comes to town once or twice a year.

If you don't mind a Slavic note, check out Arkona.

And there's of course the well known scandi bands - Finntroll, Korpiklaani ...

If you like something more psychedelic/quiet, I recommend Icelandic Solstafir: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ps3sdWWoWI

Not folk, but a strong Irish focus and one of my favorites are Primordial. I try to see them whenever they are in town, because their performance is top notch.
Coffin Ships
God to the Godless
Empire Falls

Not folk, but amusingly cheesy: EX DEO, an Ancient Rome focused side project by Quebec band Kataklysm:
I, Caligula
The Final War (Battle Of Actium)

Not really, but you could check out Haggard (esp. the first two albums), Edenbridge, Epica, Midnattsol, Within Temptation or Battlelore.

Metal is kinda popular in Europe, much more than in Quebec, and it seems to be worsening.  Slayer has moved it's upcoming show a smaller place, about 1000 people capacity.

I knew of the scandi bands, power metal stuff mostly, but Finntroll and Korpiklaani, I've known, well heard of for a while.

I've started listening to Amaranthe recently, and Youtube suggested me these videos from Eluveitie, so I'm there... :)

Kartikeya from Russia who go more for the Arab/Indian feel:

I love that song :)
A rose for Epona

Swedish guys, Viking metal, and apparently Tolkien fanboys :)
Amon Amarth - Live for the kill

Not metal, but good song, video shot in a some Scotland outside show:
Imagine Dragons - I'm gonna be

I missed the band when they came to Quebec city last fall :(
Arch Ennemy - You will know my name

Dutch metal.  Definately different.  Reminded me a bit of that boring show about angels waging war on humans.
Within Temptation - Angels

Ah, forgive me the lack of accents. ;)   Pure Viking metal with images from The Vikings.  I'll have to see this movie.  I'm pretty sure I did while I was young, but I'll have to find it :)
Manegardm - Hemfard

Folk metal.

That's all I need to know.

All metal is folk metal. I've never heard a horse play metal. :P
