QuoteTalent scouts have been looking for Sweden's next top model outside the country's largest eating disorders clinic in Stockholm, outraged doctors have revealed.

...

The last incident took place a year ago, when the clinic was forced to change its procedures for the walks that its patients take. One of the patients who was approached by a scout was so ill she was sitting in a wheelchair at the time.

Why is it only an "eating disorder" if she's too skinny?

Always seems to only apply to someone who's anorexic or bulimic.  I can't remember hearing it used to reference someone who just eats too much.

Because "just eating too much" isnt an eating disorder and anorexia is.

Why isn't it?

Its a question of degree.  If you define a large percentage of the American population as having an eating disorder simply because they tuck into too much fast food then the word loses meaning.

It's not.  Both the article and the center talk about bringing "binge-eating" under control.  Without the vomiting of bulimia added, "binge-eating" leads to obesity.

It's not.  But those people are unlikely to be scouted for modeling jobs.

I was thinking in general terms, not just about the article.

A chance for a modeling career? Finally skinny girls get some breaks.
Being lazy is bad; unless you still get what you want, then it's called "patience".
Hubris must be punished. Severely.

Exactly. Obsessive eating is a form of eating disorder.

If you tell him things like that, how's he going to rant about how "fat acceptance" is so horrible?

Actually I did come across someone talking about fat acceptance in the gay community. I was a bit sickened.
