I've always remember this guy's crank theory on how the Mercator projection is a racist plot against Africans.

The problem with the Mercator projection is that it distorts the actual sizes of land masses. Some folks have noted that it makes Africa look a lot smaller than it actually is (and Greenland as almost the same size as Africa(!)). This is supposed to be a slight against Africans, apparently. Its only real use nowadays is for navigation, as it's still really accurate for that.

He seemed to think he had a map with no distortion which is mathematically impossible, at least for a rectangular map.  Guy was a nutter.
