Go with the Microbus, and plaster it with Grateful Dead stickers.
In Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love, they had five hundred years of democracy and peace—and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock

That was my idea when I posted the pic  :D  Or a megasticker "PEDRITOBUS"

@ DSB: interesting remark: I'll use it for mountain trips too, so this could influence the choice. For some time after I got the driving license I've driven a 1986 Range Rover and boy if it rolled on every curve! But it was a dream of a car.
BTW, I've only seen one Lincoln, it surely was an imported car because Lincoln does not have a sales network in Italy.

Sounds like you need one of those family van type vehicles. Lots of room for kids and luggage, and I think some of the newer models are pretty good on fuel mileage.

...but I don't want one of those!

I didn't want a Honda Odyssey either. But man, it makes life easier.
What's the lineup in your garage these days Ed?

Do you need actual off-road capability?  'Cause if you do, the Range Rover becomes a much better choice.

If not, of the listed models, get the Ford.

EDIT:  Wait, wait.  Your company is paying for this.  Forget boring but practical, and get the R Class (still practical, which you need, but not as boring).

Tomorrow I'll have a test drive with a Land Rover Discovery (number 2 of the photos): half the price of a Range Rover classic, same fuel consumption, let's see how comfortable it is in an highway environment.  :hmm:

If you consider the BMW 5 Touring, you should consider the Mercedes E class T model as well. It's got a gigantic boot and is generally very spacious, so you should fit in three kids and luggage.

Of your list, I obviously would go with the Mercedes GL. ;)

I am partial to the Toyota Land Cruiser myself.

My boss has an R Class and he's so happy with Mercedes he swears he's going back to BMW when the time comes to replace it.

Oookay, after the test drive I'm officially in love with the Land Rover Discovery

Yes, it's 2,5 tons; yes, it looks like a box with another bigger box attached to the back; yes, during the test drive fuel consumption never went below 10 liters for 100 kms;
but it's *extremely* comfortable, silent even at 140 kmh, can have 7 seats, the motor is more brilliant than it seems (given that it weighs really a lot, and the driver immediately feels it) and generally speaking it has a very nice Land Rover feeling, and its price is about half the Range Rover Classic.

US MSRP: $35,700

So what did you pay?   :)
Probably 700,000 Euros after all the taxes.

CountDeMoney

Land Rover?  Enjoy those trips to the mechanic.  Even the fucker's electronics are in PAL format.

HSE version, 245hp engine, some optionals: € 54.000 tax included  :glare:
Consider I'll sell my actual car to the retailer, so in the end I'll spend something around 44.000 Yuros
