Watched The King's Speech with GF-of-the-moment this weekend. I was wrong, Firth deserved his Oscar. He stole the show in that movie. And I had a fun time picturing George VI screaming "shit" and "bugger" for hours in a decrepit room.

Loved the shoutout to include SIR Derek Jacobi in a movie about a Royal with a speech impediment, derided by his whole family as a dimwit, and who didn't want to put his arse on a throne, just like some obscure character from a more ancient time no one remembers anything about.

They are called hookers, and why you would pay one to watch a movie with you...:console:

Because no one looks for them when I bury them under my floorboard? Plus they'd cost cheaper than real girlfriends for the same benefits, and I wouldn't need to kick them out to get rid of them afterwards. It'd be a reasonable win-win for any guy.

Probably my favorite scandy-movie would be Adam's Apples.

Best to watch it without expectations for full effect.
I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein's brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops.

Try Danish movies too. If you haven't already, that is. The Pusher trilogy, In China They Eat Dogs and basically anything without Lars von Trier but with Kim Bodnia is good. I really, really, really loathe von Trier's movies after Riget.

From the past couple of decades, I can mention several Swedish movies that have been good or better.

I'll check Amazon to see if they have this Pusher trilogy at a low cost.
No chance this is for rent at the local video club.
I don't do meditation.  I drink alcohol to relax, like normal people.

If Microsoft Excel decided to stop working overnight, the world would practically end.

In China They Eat Dogs is a fucking riot, but it's possible that a lot of it is lost in translation.

The follow-up wasn't half-bad either. The Swedish lost son who couldn't stop murdering young women. I found it extremely funny.

I have tasted I Am Dina and I have been positively convinced not to try anything colonial again.

First off, you're colonial. Secondly, I Am Dina is a movie for women, so that is a lot of fail, even for a pretend-Swede.

I heart Adam's Apples.

Also I've seen most of the films mentioned from the Scandi countries (I am after all the Manager of the last remaining Video Store in Canada) and yup lots of great flicks, though to my mind most of the best flicks are coming from Chile & other parts of South America (except Brazil which seems to be stuck in the City Of God groove)

Also really love some recent German Flicks from Fatih Akin, and others.
:p

I don't have a clear recollection of it, which means that I either didn't find it very amusing, or didn't actually watch all of it. I guess I need to give it another chance.  :hmm:

Old men in new cars, right? I'm going to check it out again.

Emmanuelle Chriqui = awesome.  :)

It is far better for the truth to tear my flesh to pieces, then for my soul to wander through darkness in eternal damnation.

Jet: So what kind of woman is she? What's Julia like?
Faye: Ordinary. The kind of beautiful, dangerous ordinary that you just can't leave alone.
Jet: I see.
Faye: Like an angel from the underworld. Or a devil from Paradise.
