30 Days of Night is on SyFy.  Probably the only time I would ever root for Alaskan frontier types, against shitty Eastern Eurotrash vampires, barf.  Bram Stoker's Tamas.  katmai whacking 'em with an earth mover.

All that matters is whether or not it works at its intended purpose, which has very little to do with me...

The 2016 elections are going to be so much less fun. And where will I get American news now? :(

Newspapers.

That's a good one.

I'll probably be seeing it this weekend with my gal, mostly out of morbid curiosity.

Quote from: WagsThe bigger story is that 50 Shades takes porn into the mainstream.

I suspect one will be disappointed if that's what one expects.  The excerpts I've read from the book are indeed hilariously pornographic (apparently fucking someone on their period, with no particular flourish or any fetishization, is BDSM? I guess I've been at it longer than I thought).  However, the movie's only rated R.  No penetration, no cumshots, probably not even pussy or cock.  It may be erotic, but it's a real wait and see.

The movie got banned to people under 12 in France. Pretty telling.  :frog:

I was bored and somebody recommended the 100. I had tried watching the pilot before and failed, but have now reached a few episodes and it's still shit.

Is it going to improve radically or should I find something else to waste time on?

I dig it, but I was hooked after the pilot. Post-apocalyptic sci-fi is my jam.

I had the same reaction after the first few episodes.  It does get dramatically better as the character arcs develop.   The later part of the first season is good and the second season is very good.  However you do have to struggle through the juvenile nonsense to get to the good stuff as the characters mature.

Never get tired of watching that Mad Max trailer.  :worthy:

Razgovory

Saw the film "Fury".  Not a fan of the depiction of American soldiers as rapists and murders.  Also the final battle was asinine.
If you were in a tank and a battalion of infantry were marching up, why on Earth would you sit there and wait till you get surrounded before opening fire.  The tank was immobile but still had a big cannon. Opening fire from a distance would mean the enemy has to either make a large detour to get around you, bring up an AT gun, try to destroy you with artillery or infiltrate your position and knock out your tank with rockets and grenades.  All of these would slow down the enemy, probably enough for reinforcements to arrive.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011
