I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

I'd like to watch it.

I guess I'm gonna have to torrent it from work.
Colonel Caliga is Awesome.

I feel I should force myself through the last series of Atlantis first.
Though that thing is damn hard to get online. The copyright people guard it hard, I got two warnings from two episodes last year.

I thought it was pretty ok. So far I think all of the charachters are dickheads which is a good thing.

It's like 40 bucks at HMV.

The most recent episode was pretty good.

It's obvious they're trying to copy BSG's style. (In four episodes they've only Gated once so far). But given that BSG is no longer on, this is a decent alternative. I like the potential this series has.  But since everything I like tends to get cancelled early on, I don't have much hope.

it was predictable since they weren't going to cut down the cast to 17 people on a hlaf dead planet. still, it was a good episode. As for the BSG feel Josephus mentioned, hopefully that go away now that they can use the stargate again.

Well...of course we knew that everyone would live. But come on...that happens on every show. I thought it was still well done.

On SG1, on Atlantis, et.al., we always knew the team wouldn't die. When the Wraith attacked Atlantis in every season's cliffhanger, we always knew the Good Guys would prevail.

I just though that the episode was well done. Kept my interest. We're getting to know the characters, and there's even a couple nice looking chicks on it, as opposed to just the one. [Tayla/ Carter]

THe BSG thing is getting annoying.  A bunch of assholes stranded on a spaceship isn't fun.  Stargate is` supposed to be action with some humor mixed in.

It works best when the characters know just how stupid the situations are and work their way through it anyway.  That's why Richard Dean Anderson made the show.  Colonel O'Neill always introduced a level of snark that could make even the cheesiest plot entertaining.

This show seems to be looking for that gritty, hopeless stuff.  And at the end it will turn out they go back in time and wander into the wilderness to form the basis for Atlantis in Earth legend or some shit.

I agree that tacking on "Stargate" to the name of a show that clearly doesn't draw inspiration from the Stargate universe is just irritating; far more so than copying BSG's style.  As you point out, Stargate is a completely different subgenre of SF than is BSG.  I know Hollywood isn't famous for guts, but these attempts to "re-write Lovecraft stories into the Diskworld universe" are daffy and doomed.

No, it was stupid.

"DOOM!"

I mean, I would've guessed harvesting fuel for nuclear fusion, but I wouldn't have assumed the AI which already led them to needed resources was spontaneously beaking.
