The mass spin effort has already started that this is all BLM/Antifa people and no Trump cultists were involved. I've seen it repeatedly on Facebook, Twitter, local news comments, and from my own mother.
I'm sorry to say that I've seen it too, on Facebook from a friend that I had no idea was this stupid. :bleeding:

That must make you quite sad; similar in a way to how most people react to my posts here.

No, we all know what to expect.  :P

Very few of them wore masks, so I'm sure all these questions and concerns about the identity of the rioters will be resolved soon to everyone's satisfaction.
Even with such things, there are already memes going around saying Viking guy is a member of antifa and so are the neo nazis. All of whom we know with 100% certainty both who they are and who they support. Yet here we are. With the opposition already denying it. You have too much faith in people believing the truth and using reason.

No thanks.

I kind of want to start a new thread on this because it seems more important than the stupidity today.

Yougov has a poll out on the reaction today: "is the storming of the capitol building a threat to democracy?"

62%-32% say yes (93/4 among dems, 55/32 amount independents, 27/68 amoung reps).

If 1/3 of the population is cool with storming the capitol to stop proceedings (never mind with someone dying), it really doesn't seem like an orderly democracy is a bit tenuous. And to be fair it is probably a lot higher but the dems that are cool with well meaning violence went 93/4 because this time it was against their side. And who knows what to make of the 6% undecided.

They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.

There's a fine line between salvation and drinking poison in the jungle.

I'm embarrassed. I've been making the mistake of associating with you. It won't happen again. :)

Huh.  So these people now thugs and rioters.  While the HK rioters who did almost the same thing a year ago were "activists".  Attempts to bring them to justice are against basic human rights.

Yeah well start whining when one of these dudes today gets brought to justice. Because today they were allowed to enter and leave basically unscathed.

I'm not sure I believe this story, but CBS is reporting that the Cabinet is discussing the 25th amendment, seen on the BBC News rolling tagline.

Edit:
Found this on the CBS news site:

Quote
Trump Cabinet members discuss possibility of invoking 25th Amendment

"Face the Nation" moderator Margaret Brennan reports some senior members of the Trump administration have discussed the possibility of invoking the 25th Amendment, which could be used to remove a president from office and make the vice president the commander in chief. She joins "CBS Evening News" anchor and managing editor Norah O'Donnell for a CBS News Special Report in the aftermath of the violent protests at the Capitol.1h ago

So not much more substantial than gossip and some vagueness about when and no indication of who's involved.

Senate dismisses the objections about the Arizona ballots 93-6.

The 6 republican senators who still voted for the motion were Josh Hawley, Cindy Hyde-Smith, Cynthia Lummis, Roger Marshall, John N. Kennedy & Tommy Tuberville.

So I checked out the Twitter of the dead protester.  Jesus Christ, it's like a bottomless pit of insanity, am I glad that I've only been aware of it in general terms before.  It just reinforces my belief that social media functions just like a hard drug, and affects people's life in much the same way.  People get hooked hard and then build their life around getting their next fix.  I think everyone who works for Twitter and Facebook have some soul searching to do tonight.

I haven't seen her social media, but from what I've heard I can't find any compassion for her.

The medievals were only too right in taking nolo episcopari as the best reason a man could give to others for making him a bishop. Give me a king whose chief interest in life is stamps, railways, or race-horses; and who has the power to sack his Vizier (or whatever you care to call him) if he does not like the cut of his trousers.

Government is an abstract noun meaning the art and process of governing and it should be an offence to write it with a capital G or so as to refer to people.
