Hillary wrote another book nobody is going to read. Not sure how that is keeping in the news. Writing self-justifying books is what retired generals and politicians do. Would she playing shuffle board on the senior cruise also be too much?

Not at all,  There will continue to be disarray hurting the party for a period of time.  But at some point, leadership will emerge to set things on a new course.  GOP may take a beating in next year's mid-terms.  We may have a Democrat win the White House in 2020.  Or President Pence could step up and stabilize things.  Who knows?  But the GOP will recover, and probably faster than a lot of you would hope.

Several times after big elections in the past three decades we've heard how the GOP or Democrat Party is in shambles, dead, out of power for a generation, etc. but each party always seems to recover.

I'm not seeing the signs, but here's hoping.

One of my personal bellwethers on this is seeing derspiess vote Democrat in 2018. I rate the changes of that very low, but I think for the current trajectory of the GOP to reverse it'll need some of the hardcore GOP voters who dislike Trump to send a clear signal to the party.

Like I said, I'm not seeing the signs.

That's kind of the point. If Trump's shenanigans so far is not enough to convince derspiess to vote for the Democrats to send a message in 2018, then no such message will be sent to the GOP. So like I said, while I can see the hope is that the nation will send a strong rebuke to the GOP over Trump in 2018, I consider it unlikely. If spicy is not moved to vote constructively against Trump, then none of the people further to the right will abandon the GOP.

I mean, it's only a heuristic of course. But where do the ones hoping for a 2018 turn against Trump see the votes coming from?

My hope is that a real Republican will be the party's nominee in 2020.  Probably won't happen, but we'll see.
