I'm wondering if they were just focusing on the NY metro area for that bit.  Found this map and yeah there are many places with much worse commutes (per census data) but I guess not on average for full state.

Saskatchewan - Ugliest Scenery
Manitoba - Lowest Social Well-Being (whatever that is)
Ontario - High Taxes & Murder Capital
Quebec - Least friendly & Worst managed

Nova Scotia - Worst Weed Quality
New Brunswick - Lowest Wages
Yukon - Most dangerous roads for drivers

Dunno about the taxes, but Ontario has a relatively low per-capita murder rate. Nunavut is the place to be murdered in.

New Brunswick doesn't have a good mall
Quebec is revolting and it makes me mad

The population density of Manitoba is 1.4 people per square kilometre, isn't that stupid?
