Egypt-born Sharif won two Golden Globe awards and an Oscar nomination for his role as Sherif Ali in David Lean's 1962 epic Lawrence of Arabia.

He won a further Golden Globe three years later for Doctor Zhivago.

Earlier this year, his agent confirmed that he had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease.

I should watch Dr Zhivago and play Revolution Under Siege. :(

On that note, I discovered the other day that Olivia de Havilland is still alive. :blink:

I am terrible with that scene. Everytime I pass by a sex shop or a souvenir stand I just cannot help but start saying 'souvenirs, novelties, party tricks'

He was my mum's huge crush and the reason I was forced to see "Doctor Zhivago".

Rest in peace, moustached one. I remember you from such a varied selection of movies as one of the Pink Panther movies and "Lawrence of Arabia", quite possibly the best movie ever made.
