You would love Legend of Galactic Heroes. It's basically the Napoleonic Wars and/or Alexander the Great in space, without any cutesy kawaii bullshit, without mechas and without high school kids that have magic powers. Unfortunately, there's only fan subtitled versions of it, no official dub. You have whole episodes devoted to discussing military plans and strategy.
