Quote from: Valmy on October 21, 2025, 07:40:48 PMI am curious how a party that seems pretty clear on its policies to dramatically reduce freedoms for people calls itself the Party for Freedom. But maybe it makes more sense in Dutch.

It doesn't. It only works if it's short for Freedom To Go Back To The Good Old Days When Minorities And Women Knew Their Place.

Quote from: Maladict on October 24, 2025, 05:17:56 AMNot much. Almost all parties have excluded Wilders, so he's not getting in unless he gets a monstrous amount of votes. The remaining parties are pro Europe, mostly pro Ukraine and somewhat pro environment.

Well that's reassuring in these troubled times

We call ours The Progress Party. :uffda:

It is sort of in the cards that the more "democratic" and "freedom" words there in a party's title, the less there is of it. "Peace and Reconcilation" usually means "Let me put my boot in".

European party politics is really on the ropes, hanging on by a thread.

Damn, that's so accurate, matches nearly 1:1 for Spain if we had a green party

- Popular Party (center-right)
- Spanish Socialist Workers Party (center-left)
- Vox (fasch)
- Citizens (center, now defunct) - it lacks the "Montgomery Burns wearing a cool t-shirt and a beanie cap" vibes that "Wow!" conveys, but we'll get there.
- United We Can / We Can  (left)

Why no Spanish Greens?
The fact it'd be more of a brown there?

Leftist parties have co-opted the environmentalist agenda, so our green party usually only runs around 1% of the vote - and their agenda is rather narrow, they are more of an animal rights party than a true green party in the European sense.

Who'd have thought a country where they let bulls make high-speed runs at people as a festive occasion would need animal rights?

crazy canuck

Naw, they let the bulls gore and trample people.  It's safety bylaw officers that are needed.

In several surveys, the overwhelming first choice for what makes Canada unique is multiculturalism. This, in a world collapsing into stupid, impoverishing hatreds, is the distinctly Canadian national project.
