I'm wondering how many of those guys refused to wear masks during Covid, claiming they wouldn't be able to breathe. :P

Please keep him away from anything written by Pierre Sprey as well.

Maybe he'll watch 300 and we'll bring back the phalanx manned by muscular, oiled up men.

I take him to be more of a Kingdom of Heaven fanboy rooting for the Templars, Guy, and Raynald. Nothing like a good ole "Deus Vult!/God wills it!" chant to fire him up with his Outremer tat.
"Everything that brought you here -- all the things that made you a prisoner of past sins -- they are gone. Forever and for good. So let the past go... and live."

"Somebody, after all, had to make a start. What we wrote and said is also believed by many others. They just don't dare express themselves as we did."

Some more quotes from Hegseth's farce:

"We all serve at the pleasure of the president, every single day."

"As history teaches us, the only people who actually deserve peace are those who are willing to wage war to defend it. That's why pacifism is so naive and dangerous."

"Frankly, it's tiring to look out at combat formations, or really any formation, and see fat troops.  Likewise, it's completely unacceptable to see fat generals and admirals in the halls of the Pentagon leading commands around the country and the world.  It's a bad look. It is bad, and it's not who we are."

"We unleash overwhelming and punishing violence on the enemy. We also don't fight with stupid rules of engagement. We untie the hands of our warfighters to intimidate, demoralize, hunt, and kill the enemies of our country. No more politically correct and overbearing rules of engagement."

"If the words I'm speaking today are making your heart sink, then you should do the honorable thing and resign."

Richard Hakluyt

Where does an obese commander in chief fit into all of this?

With difficulty I suppose.

Meanwhile, looks like Hegseth watched A Few Good Men and thought Col. Jessup was the hero.

He's not wrong about resigning. If I had an employer who behaved like the US government I would GTFO immediately. No one can convince me that officers of those ranks face crippling unemployment if they resign. And if they would like to see change of behavior at the top then their feet are their most powerful weapon.
Women want me. Men want to be with me.

Quote from: The Minsky Moment on September 30, 2025, 10:12:03 AMSo the Hegseth meet up was just some weirdo MAGA pep talk?  Pulling senior leadership out of commands all over the world so they can hear a former National Guard junior officer lecture them about fitness standards and being a WARRING WARRIOR for WAR?

I wish the Senate hadn't been so hard on him for drinking.  We'd be better off with him passed out dead drunk half the time.

I am sure he lectured Captain Morgan too?

Hegseth strikes me as so out of his depth that it hurts. It is like one of those ships in a bottle. How did that get in there?
Abd I am not talking about the drinking. Lots of competent people drink too much, but Hegseth's background does not exactly scream "cabinet position".

Almost guaranteed that even the lowest ranking one there (1-star generals/admirals) would have over 20 years of service and be eligible to quit/retire with a pension.  The lowest possible pension would be ~$100k/year (and medical care would cost a little...but be practically free).

There were some senior enlisted there too...they might be a little worse off, but still pretty comfortable.

The chutzpah is someone of his character telling people to "...do the honorable thing...".

Please show where I debased myself to show the in-group I belong. Please define who this in-group would be on this very limited and small public of this message board.

I think I already did.  You refuse to admit the existence of homeless people who, by virtue of their mental issues, are incapable of gainful employment, and thus incapable of benefiting from the purported benefits of living wage legislation.

But then you can flip that and say that you're doing the same by refusing to admit the existence of homeless who don't have mental issues and are thus capable of benefiting from the purported benefits of living wage legislation, can you not?
Being lazy is bad; unless you still get what you want, then it's called "patience".
