The stockmarket makes no fucking sense. Everything can be going to shit, it goes up. A business clearly loses a fuckton of money with few realistic chances of ever turning a profit and everybody buys their stock. It is a fucking joke. But hey at least I somewhat profit off the idiocy.

In a way, nothing new, they've been doing this with Latino kids for years. There is an element where it is extra shocking when it happens to a white English speaking kid.

All this aside. Imprisoning a 6 year old at the best of times is barbaric. When he has a valid visa....

The pre-announcement expectation was even worse.  Between that, the poor jobs numbers, and the intense political pressure on the Fed, the expectation of a rate cut rose.

As I mentioned a while back (and, predictably, got challenged on it by Yi, as I recall), I feel like this constant hope by the market for a rate cut is the sign of a very unhealthy general setup, where everything depends on institutions' ability to pump cheaply loaned money into financial assets to generate "growth".

How many scandals does the uk need before it's considered WAD?

The 2028/29 general election will probably see the UK comprehensively fucked up and operating at Trumpish levels of incompetence and general nastiness going forward.

The only crumb of comfort is that it looks like we won't be alone in this.

Yeah. I got the sense when Labour won in 2024 that it was the UK's last chance before the deluge and they HAD to succeed.

And they are just fucking it up. Just like the Democrats did. There is such a lack of urgency and so much business as usual bullshit from these mainstream parties on the precipice of total disaster. It is terrifying, frustrating, and puzzling.

Ultimately the people are sovereign and we are responsible and the buck stops with us...but still. Good people are begging these leaders to lead and take charge and steer the ship through these troubled waters and they just seem like the most indifferent people...
