Quote from: Valmy on August 11, 2025, 12:39:56 PMNot being able to afford to afford a place to live is now a crime I guess.

QuotePOLITICAL OFFICER JULIE MUSANTE: Anyway, enough politics. How are things here on the station?

BABYLON 5 STATION COMMANDER SHERIDAN: Fine. Status quo. We've had a few problems with the lurkers, but nothing --

     JULIE MUSANTE: Lurkers?

SHERIDAN: Our version of the homeless. In some ways we have the same problems Earth does.

JULIE MUSANTE: Earth doesn't have homeless.

     SHERIDAN: Excuse me?

JULIE MUSANTE: We don't have the problem. Sure, there are a few... displaced people here and there, but they've chosen to be in that position. They're lazy, or criminal, or mentally unstable --

SHERIDAN: They can't get a job.

JULIE MUSANTE: Earthgov has promised a job for anyone who wants one. If someone doesn't have a job, it must be because they don't want one. Quid pro quo. ( She says it with the air of a true believer, as though dropping some totally accepted fact. Sheridan is boggled. )

     SHERIDAN: And poverty?

     JULIE MUSANTE: The same.

     SHERIDAN: Crime?

JULIE MUSANTE: There's some, but it's all caused by the mentally unstable. We've just instituted correctional centers to filter them out at an early age.

     SHERIDAN: Prejudice?

     JULIE MUSANTE
We're just one happy planet. Well, except for the Marsies, but that won't change until they stop fighting Earth rule.

SHERIDAN: And when, exactly, did all this happen?

JULIE MUSANTE: When we rewrote the dictionary.
We are born dying, but we are compelled to fancy our chances.

Long live the commies.

Quote from: Legbiter on August 11, 2025, 10:48:29 AMTrump has appointed Billy Long as ambassador to Iceland.

QuoteLong was an auctioneer and owned Billy Long Auctions, LLC from 1979 to 2011. He was named "Best Auctioneer in the Ozarks" for seven years in a row. In 2016, he was inducted into National Auctioneers' Association Hall of Fame after his 2009 induction into the Missouri Professional Auctioneers' Association Hall of Fame. He was a talk radio show host on the Springfield-based station KWTO and worked as a realtor part time

He sounds a lot more fun than the last Trump appointee who was a rich dermatologist and an insufferable boor.  :hmm:

This isn't the big part of the story.  He was put in charge of the IRS two months ago, and wouldn't give ICE access to immigrants' taxes.  So he was shifted to an ambassadorship.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

Quote from: Bauer on August 11, 2025, 02:03:50 PMFederal control over police in the Capitol sounds like the most dangerous change yet to me.   Still have faith the America people will prevail over this in the end, but these kinds of events are the type of thing that has potential to look like the enabling act in a history book someday  :hmm:

So much for the Epstein files.

I have less faith week by week. It's like a frog in the pot. Changes bit by bit a less noticeable then a full on coup, but the outcome is the same.
Being lazy is bad; unless you still get what you want, then it's called "patience".

That'll come back. If there's one thing the fringier right is obsessed about its pedophilia. Makes one wonder if they're not projecting.

Oh they 100% are.
I can't find it right now but there's a list online of all the fasc in the UK going down for this stuff.
They're absolutely riddled with it.

Well, there is this:
QuoteSenator Whitehouse asked the BOP for Ghislaine Maxwells sex offender waiver, custody level, transfer code, and security point score. I have them. She's also been granted the ability to leave the facility for work assignments.

She is a useful asset, one assumes she can dish dirt on political opponents whilst maintaining a studious silence on others. I'm just wondering if a full rehabilitation is in the offing.

Just like the dithering of the Biden DOJ in prosecuting Trump for January 6th, I don't understand why the DOJ did not release the list before the last election.

What's the legal or ethical argument for publicizing the names of everyone Epstein ever spoke to?

Or are you approaching it from the POV of political advantage?

That list is out there and widely available, a while back I posted a lengthy article about it.
This secret second list is rather more who he sold girls to as I understand it.

In several surveys, the overwhelming first choice for what makes Canada unique is multiculturalism. This, in a world collapsing into stupid, impoverishing hatreds, is the distinctly Canadian national project.

I am expecting she will be subpoenaed by Congress, and before a big media spectacle will testify that Trump did nothing wrong.

That would draw too much attention to Trump over the affair.  She'll point fingers at Clinton and any other prominent Democrats they can think of.
