Judges can tell the president what's constitutional or not.  But now you need 50 of them to do it.

Yeah...probably shouldn't do that Vice-Mayor.

Whatever a Vice-Mayor is.

Depending on how the city government is set up, usually can be the 1st (if a separate elected mayor) or 2nd ranking (if the 1st ranking holds the "Mayor" spot) member of the city council or some such.

Looks like they do the latter.

Based on their actions their job is mayor of vice.

The Minsky Moment

Someone's got to keep crime organized.
We have, accordingly, always had plenty of excellent lawyers, though we often had to do without even tolerable administrators, and seen destined to endure the inconvenience of hereafter doing without any constructive statesmen at all.

Well the Senate passed the reconciliation thing.

Hope nobody here needs Medicaid.

Back to the House it goes for the final showdown.

Razgovory

I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

The Brain

The US embassy in Stockholm doesn't appear to have cancelled utilities after sending letters to suppliers demanding they stop hiring women and non-whites, letters which were obviously ignored. Sending the letters made the US look evil and stupid, and not following through on the threat of shitting in bags in the dark makes it look weak. I don't know why the US wants to present as evil, stupid, and weak, but why doesn't matter. We have to deal with the US we have, not the US we wish we had.

Of course, that has been true since Reagan abandoned the bipartisan approach to foreign policy.  US foreign policy since then has been based on what plays in Peoria, not what US national interests would suggest.

:frusty: :frusty:

Murkowski was placed in a difficult position.  Senate Republican leaders gave her a blank check to get her vote. She asked for ridiculous concessions, and they granted them without a murmur. It would have been difficult for her to go back to her voters after turning that down.

That's not an excuse for abandoning her principals, but it's an interesting case of what happens when you just keep adding gold to the pile until it becomes impossible to reject.
