Huge Custodian patch announced, fixing many problematic mechanics or features in the game. Genuinely excited for this.

Next expansions announced. Basically enhancing the biological and psionic ascension paths plus a species pack. Plus the massive Stellaris 4.0 rework. Mostly what the fans requested. I will definitely get it as Stellaris is probably my favourite Paradox game right now.

So, seems the feedback at the moment is that the expansion itself is good, but that the 4.0 overhaul of planets/pops is problematic/unblanced/unstable/messy? Partially it seems to be that people are struggling to find the info needed to make decisions, i.e. what district allows which buildings and how many jobs/output this will create?

I fired up a game on the weekend, looked around the planet menu and closed the game, deciding I'd dive into this another time (similar to when I checked out steppe gameplay in CK3 the other week ).

Yeah, needs to bake a few more patches in.  Logged in, was trying to learn... crashed.  Tried again.. .crashed.   Haven't tried since the patch today though.  Hopefully will get some playtime this weekend.  Evolutionary predator hive mind is calling me...

Not too bad Jacob!  Glad to see Languish is still continuing on... was doing more board/card game stuff for a bit.  Decided to play some Paradox games which got me thinking of you all.  Glad to see I can still log in and that I remember all the usernames of everyone!

With my computer upgrade stellaris now runs well enough to play new horizons.
It's... Aye. It's alright. But everything has gotten just too big and automation is borked.
It's pointless to keep playing but I'm tempted to anyway....

For how long 4.0 was in beta, this release seems to be pretty bad, just judging by the number of patches. Seems the DLC is good, but the actual 4.0 is scuffed. Performance was promised to be better (people say it's not), and AI seems to struggle with the mechanical changes.

No. ITs hours going system to system in an endless grind. Then having small squadrons to get rid of the 'leakers' that show up and take over a system or two. 

The automation for the AI empires sucks.  I was wondering why they were all so weak when the crisis began and then noticed that every planet I conquered was the same.  Generator world, mining, world, etc all had few if any buildings other than hydroponics and few districts beyond agriculture.  At some point last night I had 7k surplus food a month.

What the end game in the endgame crisis is is beyond me.  There is no indication what is supposed to happen beyond trying to conquer the whole galaxy while my own empire has trouble with unemployment and overpopulation etc and empire size gets worse.

So... its not much different than before save for the AI empires being crap.
