Oh I bet you can. There are probably a thousand scary articles per child.

I don't do meditation.  I drink alcohol to relax, like normal people.

Teenagers, yes (obviously). Children, no.  Children might receive puberty blockers in rare cases, but those are not gender-affirming.

I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

It's the Languish way!

Kids can consent to be married at 16, seems weird they can't consent to gender affirming care.

Though actually you can give your baby gender affirming care if they are intersex and you want to turn them into a boy or girl. They don't get to consent to that shit, the parents can decide the whole way.

The Minsky Moment

This is what a Trump presidency looks like.

The President and VP betray our allies, side with a brutal murderous dictatorship and in a matter of minutes irrevocably smash the entire alliance system meticulously built over decades and that successfully kept America secure since WW2.  A fearful and increasingly hostile world looks with suspicion on a chaotic American junta, whose policy to the extent it is coherent is driven by malign foreign influence.

A crazed billionaire whose dream is to leave planet earth and found a new dynasty on Mars is "reforming" Washington DC along the lines that the Vandals and Visigoths "reformed" the city of Rome.

The Congress is supine, its leadership falling over each other to breathlessly assert their abject loyalty to the Leader.  The Court is poised to aid and abet the dismantling of the Constitution it swore to defend. Once eradicated diseases sweep the land with epidemic force, while others even more dangerous evolve overseas. Planes fall from the sky and smash into each other. Violent criminals are freed with plans to deputize them to terrorize suspected migrants and put them into concentration camps.  Once independent US attorneys and federal law enforcement have been taken over by rapid far right talk show hosts.  Ever worsening hurricane seasons approach with monitoring and response agencies gutted.  Trump, Musk and family are busy stealing everything not nailed down.

But Trump has dangled his shiny object and so even the Languishites are busy chasing around discussing

Well yes, but what about AP not naming it Gulf of America. We should discuss that!

This dropping of seeing Russia as a threat....

This does not bode well for the future of democracy in the US. Why bother fixing the vote yourself when you can just let the Russians do it. Looks like the republicans have won the next election alreays

Next G7 summit is set to be held in Canada in June. Trump said he'd like Putin to return and restore G8. I have a hard time believing the other countries would go along with it. Will Trump choose to not attend (or worse, send Vance)? Or will he show up and be a petulant child all the time? (My knee jerk reaction is to exclude Trump, but I also think the fallout would be even worse :P )

Btw, the Wiki page on G7 has this gallery with official portraits of the current G7 leaders, and EU attendants. If this was a murder mystery, Trump would be the immediate obvious suspect. :P

What makes me extra despondent is that Vance seems to be just as bad as Trump. Sure he is not demented, but he seems to combine creepy levels of sociopathic ambition with staggering levels of incompetence.

So one cannot just hope that nature helps out and rids the world of the orange man.

Multilateralism with Trump is pointless as one of his core convictions is that international relations are a zero-sum game.

If anything, Trump's distracted idiotic dementia-brain is more of a hindrance to Vance and his ilk who would probably forge forward even worse than the Cheeto Lord who at least ostensibly seems concerned about his image. So if Trump keels over tomorrow I expect the mask to come off even more.

Oh, how I wish myself and people like me were not a topic of debate or discussion at all. I would so, so, so happily fade into the shadows.

Even his tantrum with Zelenskyy yesterday was attended by him rambling pretty incoherently through his anger at being slightly corrected. He seemed to grasp onto certain words and phrases, no matter how little they applied to a coherent thought or message (cards, anyone?) and just... run with them till some other word or phrase was shiny enough to distract him again. If he weren't causing the collapse of my country and the global economic and diplomatic spheres, it might even be sad to watch.

That doesn't strike me as an accurate description of events. I think Valmy, HVC and Sophie were having civil discussions. Foaming at the mouth appeared to be limited to, once again, Raz and Legbiter.

It is sad how Trump emboldens bigots but it is useful to have them self identify themselves. While I know DGuller finds it frightful, we don't have to spend our free time conversing with individuals who can't even manage to stay civil by the lax standards of Languish.
