What about protectorates? I feel AI is more likely to turn smaller countries into protectorates instead of conquering them.

I tried upping the radicalism from acceptance. I didn't want to go too high with it to insta-rebel or push the Slaves in the US into immediate revolt, but getting to a point where with some nudging will "push them over", like Springtime of Peoples (which adds another 25% to movement agitation) ... but SoP still doesn't seem to fire reliably?

Also, playing as Austria didn't notice it much, but apparently mass migrations are a bit effed. So, POPs that are very discriminated against will be quite likely to try and emigrate. However, mass migrations don't take into account whether they'll be discriminated against in the target country. Now, obviously folks moved to countries where they're unpopular (for USA see Chinese, Irish, Italians .... ), so not sure how to best balance it.  :hmm:

Quit in disgust so didn't check.

Seems too strong a reaction to a video game. :D ;)

Yeah I am not sure this is as big an issue as OPB makes it out to be. Clickbait culture strikes again?

Well I may have exaggerated.  :D

I was just looking forward to the reworks in the patch and I am still happy they have happened, but seeing a player Austria requiring absolutely zero input to stay stable until 1928 was quite the bummer to see.

Well, in the video he turns the US into a ethno-nationalist theocratic regime that promotes immigration with Greener Grass campaigns. I think migration needs a bit of adjusting, but it's also leaning into certain strategies full force.

To be fair, zero input may be more optimal than how Ferdinand and Conrad played it in real life.

As I understand it, the key driver for cross-country migration is availability of unused arable land in the target country.  Which is a decent model for migration attraction to the United States BEFORE the 1830s but not so good for explaining Chinese, Irish and Italian migrations after that date, no matter what Cruise and Kidman have to say about it.

The Minsky Moment

Says a lot about this place that you have to post to confirm knowledge of a big Hollywood star vehicle, but it is just assumed that references to an obscure failed 19th century ruler and an army chief of staff of a defunct polity from a century ago will be understood as a matter of course.

:D

A somewhat annoying quirk is that Russia now always seems to ally with Mexico early on (doubtless due to their Pacific Coast interest via their Alaska colony, though they didn't do it much pre-patch?). Then again, the US is very keen on getting drawn in to European affairs, guaranteeing here, signing a defensive pact there, and taking the occasional protectorate (though there is a mod stopping them from doing that).

There was no hotfix yesterday, so I fired up Imperator: Rome (vanilla). I spent an hour or two with it, and in the end I had a headache, because there just seemed so many fiddly bits between character management, trade, six or seven tech trees, mission trees, managing your provinces and settlements ("Yay for getting the law, you get one free something building in Latium" - WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN?. "Yay for beating Samnium, you get a free colony there!")

Granted, I hadn't played since release, really, but damn, that felt impenetrable (and that's before looking at pop and culture management). :D

With CK3, Vic3, and even Stellaris I can just jump in for a bit if I feel like it and mess around. With Imperator I seemed to run into a wall (incidentally how I feel about EU4 a lot of the time :D ).

I did not understand the reference. :(
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011
