Quote from: Syt on November 15, 2024, 02:47:59 AMbut when I assigned Mauser to research infantry equipment I realized that those companies all have their own little level up/experience trees. I appreciate the granularity, but it's getting a bit silly between this and hand picking what motor goes into which tank etc. :P

"Ok . . . I'll promote Peter Jones from Airframe Design Engineer at Grumman to Senior Airframe Design Engineer. Now I see the new GM plant has costs ticking up, let's bring in a new Controller for the plant.  And then . . . I'm sorry what's that?  Japanese troops invading San Diego?  Hold that thought for a bit, we have a serious crisis with the janitorial staff at Newport News."

@DGuller Agreed on the Ratte and similar stuff. Besides the problematic logistics (at 1000 tons it wouldn't be able to use any infrastructure like roads, maintenance, fuel, ammunition, defensive units) - it's mostly a big, juicy target for air attacks.

How would you even move a 1,000 ton tank?  You couldn't put it on a train or even a ship.  It would be like that giant platform that NASA has that moved the space shuttle from the hanger to the launch pad.  Over the course of a week.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

The big bucket wheel excavators travel at up to 10 meters per second when relocating.

However, they're also significantly heavier than 1000 tons. But I imagine the logistics, in principle, would be similar. In other words, not something you would use on a blitzkrieg offensive.

EDIT: NASA crawler was a good call, though. :)

QuoteNASA crawler-transporter
An ultra-heavy transporter used to ferry spacecraft to the launching pad. At 2,000 tons each, they are the second largest ground vehicle that still use an internal combustion engine as its source of propulsion rather than being reliant on an external power source.

Oh, Eva Braun can become leader of Germany.  The game gets weirder and weirder.

That is positively normal compared to much of the other batshit stuff they have in there.

This is admittedly more plausible than CKII where you can be replaced by a bear and nobody notices.

I read that they focused much more on the individual Nazis without giving any historical context. One prominent German streamer did not review the last DLC for that reason.

Syt

Not sure what you mean. You can see gameplay effects and modifiers. What other context do you need?

In HOI4, Poland can be led by Wojtek.

Want to tell me again about how an abstracted economic model the colonial age that involves slavery is more problematic?

Tamas

Goring as competent? Microing occupation zones?

Nazi much?

Solmyr

Yeah, IIRC the main argument of that German youtuber/historian was that they are presenting all the Nazi leaders as cool competent guys who only do good things for your country.

Zanza

It worked for Paradox though. Active players is the peaking for HoI4, eight years after launch. So clearly a Nazi DLC was what the player base wanted.
