Does anyone here pronounce been as "bean?" I say bin and bean sounds really bizarre to me.
I hear that only hicks call soda "pop".

I am not sure how you pronounce "bean" :P
The option on the map is sounds like "seen". That is how I pronounce it. I have heard people pronounce it as "bin" but those people are mainly from rural parts of the prairie provinces who have a lot of grammatical and pronounciation oddities.
How do you pronounce it?

The only time I hear the word soda is when someone is baking with it - baking soda.
Pop is the common word here.
Not surprising, as Canada is generally like the Midwest, only colder and emptier.

Not Vancouver, which is in all ways far superior.

I am not sure. I think they are the same. But to be safe I thought we should use "seen" as the comparitor as I have no idea how certain Americans might pronounce bean given they think been is bin.

I pronounce it "ben". I think "bin" sounds silly, and "bean" sounds pretentious from an American.

Well both sound more like pit and bit than pet and bet.
Pen as pin is quite common. I've heard it from California through the southern plains to the deep south

Am I correct in how I think I say things, Max? You pay closer attention than I do, and I often think I say things one way only to have you say otherwise.
I have to say I never noticed it. I guess because most of my time in the US was spent on basketball courts and I never had had an occasion in which anyone ask me if I had a pen.

I grew up saying bin. I would say the way you say it is somewhere between ben and bean. I don't know a phoenetic spelling that really captures it. Sort of "byen" but quicker.
One I got called on recently was pronouncing "bury" the way it's spelled. Many people here pronounce it like berry.
