Spain invites Shephardic Jews back (bring your 1492 drivers' licences please):

... but what will Spain do with thousands of Siegies? ;)
Lulz we need money. Let's invite Jews back.
Not antisemitic at all.
Embarrasing. Spain should have left this one alone.

If it brings just a few back it might help a little.
Well, it makes a more pleasant change from expelling/killing them when their money is needed.
Why would Jews want to go to Spain?

Maybe that's their long-term financial plan, after some of the Jews come back. :hmm:

As long as it's the UK it's no problem. Same Queen and all.

If a country is giving its citizenship away for free they obviously don't value it that highly, and neither would I.
But it would be handy when visiting Europe. :)
Do your kids have dual citizenship?

Your call, but I'd take my citizenship oath & whatnot pretty seriously, and would only choose a country I would be proud of and loyal to.

So let me get this staight, if you were offered free citizenship of Spain you would turn it down on principle? Does this have something to do with the American desire to turn down free money?
Makes sense if you think of citizenship as an expression of loyalty rather than just a pragmatic asset.

Yeah I can see that. I thought Spicey was implying some sort of conflict of interest. Like Spain would demand BB spy on those wacky Canadians and their vile plots for them.

I presume he is saying that it gives you an asset you might use. Like if you need to flee Canada and are under some delusion the EU does not have an extradition treaty.
If the goal of immigration policy is to increase immigrants that have strong family backgrounds and are well educated, the pool of people that can trace their family history to 1500 probably has more of those qualities than the pool of those that can not.

Either that ... or total scammers. :D
AFAIK there have been provisions in Spanish law to give the citizenship to descendants of sepharditic jews for a very long time, I don't know what's so special about this one to be featured in the media.
For instance, a Spanish diplomat in Budapest in WWII used those provisions to give phony Spanish passports to thousands of jews there in order to allow them to flee the country. You can read about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%81ngel_Sanz_Briz (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%81ngel_Sanz_Briz)
Why doesn't this apply to the morsicos who were expelled as well? I'm pretty sure this hasn't been thought through properly. Also, based on the reaction in israeli papers I saw a month ago, I don't think anybody is going to apply.

Except for all the stupid blood feasts. Tossing goats out of church steeples. The hell is that.
Tapas, yes. Setting bulls' horns on fire and running them through the town church? Fruity ass medieval fuckheads.

It has nothing to do with the crisis. Spain has had provisions to fast-track Sephardi citizenship since Primo de Rivera's dictatorship 90 years ago, just like it does with other descendants of Spanish exiles (mostly Latinamerican).

What does that have to do with what a typical Languishite might select?
