I was talking to Fireblade earlier and we were talking about our lives and how they've changed over the past decade. It was 10 years ago many of us left Paradox OT to come here. Not all of us are still here - some have moved on and at least one has just straight up bought the farm.
So thinking back 10 years to 2003 - what has changed in your life since then? What have you accomplished? What was your life like back then compared to now?
Since I made the thread, I'll go first and I'll do Fireblade too.
Me:
10 years ago - Worked at Jack in the Box, lived with parents, timid hypochondriac with a passion and skill at internet trolling. Had not yet completed school nor enjoyed the nectar of the sweet flower of romance.
Now: Overeducated, I work for a software company, and don't care enough to troll anymore. At best I can muster the energy to snipe a few favorites like Cdm, Cdm, and Cdm. I'm single now as I was then, but with enough romantic encounters to know its usually not worth the effort. :P
Fireblade:
10 years ago: drunken frat boy waking up most mornings in a drunk tank.
Now: Family man, philanthropist, and a rising star in the world of Arkansas academia.

While I'm sure this is true, no idea who it is.
Then- working on associates degree in IT.
Now- working on bachelors degree in IT.
In between- whole lotta slacking off.
I think his name was Daniel A or something like that. I wouldn't count him as "one of us", but he at least had an account here.
Fun fact: Jaron was temp-banned for mocking Daniel A's death.
Oh, I remember him. He did an AAR about conquering the world as fast as possible with Spain which inspired me to do one* about conquering it even faster with England.
*game was finished but AAR never was
There aren't nearly as many here to tell to fuck off as there were 10 years ago.

I remember him but I didn't realize he had died. :Embarrass: What happened?
I was 18 with all that comes with it.
Now, I'm 28 with a family
I don't think anyone needs any details, they've been spilled on this forum a many times.
I just don't care anymore.
Still in the same boat as before. Little has changed.
About the only difference between me now & 10 years ago is I have kids now. And I go to bed earlier.
A shitload has changed. I have moved 5 times, completely changed my career tragectory, and broke off an engagement spent years ineptly being single and finally got married and had two kids.
Not done yet....but getting closer to getting my life to where I would like it to be.
I lurk less.
Still in AL, still the same job, few years away from retiring from the reserves, my son is 15 and learning to drive, my daughter is 8, still happily married to capturedfairy (I'm happy , she is married).

Going to be a "gray-area" retiree where you have to wait until age 60 for the pension?

Yes! Can't wait, I'm tired of all the fucking paperwork and supervising kids in this new "nice abnd politically correct" Navy.

Grab an overseas "deployment" to somewheres like Bahrain before you go; be a nice way to pad your bank account ($100k+) and pension.
Goodness... Hmm...
10 years ago - I was dating a complete jackass, still legally married to my ex for insurance purposes, still living in his house for monetary purposes, working as a waitress, taking care of four kids under 10, and suffering the worst depression I've ever had. (Shocking on the depression, right?)
Now - Happily divorced from my ex, happily married to Max ( ), getting ready to buy our first house, putting two boys through college, going to school for a career change, and finally on the road to financial security.
It was a very long, trying 10 years....
I came out to my (straight) friends, my bosses and some of my coworkers.
I got a boyfriend (almost three years in the relationship now and counting).
I started to go to pride marches and gay clubs.
I made a bunch of gay friends who are not the people I fuck.
I got a new flat I am moving into shortly.
I was admitted to the Warsaw bar.
I lived in Brussels for a while and decided I like to live in Poland after all.
I started going to the gym, dieting and lost about 20 pounds.
I completely changed the way I dress.
More to come...
Languish did not destroy anybody's life? :(

I suspect nobody who will be bragging about it in this thread :P
uglyduck was pretty messed up by it.
Let's see...
I'm married.
Still in the same business, but with a few accomplishments under my belt. I'm particularly happy with Bully and Sleeping Dogs.
Still in Vancouver. Ten years ago I lived in a one bedroom in a housing co-op. Now I live in a house we had built.
Got a driver's license and my first car at the tender age of 38.
I've been some interesting places and met all kinds of people this last decade.
Oh... and I give way less fucks about what people post on the internet than I did 10 years ago.
10 years, huh?
Well, I was still Catholic and still married. I was a handful of months away from becoming a proud papa for the second time. I was working in IT and barely making ends meet (the ex never worked more than a part time job, even before the kids came along).
Tons of shit, some amazing, some awful, mostly in-between, happened in the interim.
Now I'm starting on a new career path, have a rad blended family, and am a week away from starting grad school for my Master's in Project Management.
I think I only joined in 2005 or so.
Since then I lived in several other countries, finished my studies and started working. Met a lot of interesting people, visited quite a few countries. In general, life is good.

Pretty much all of this.
Hmmm 2003 I was splitting time between Philadelphia (winters)and Alaska(summers)
Was working PA jobs on tv/film/commercial productions.
Now working as Camera Op or AC and living full time in Alaska
Most I've done to settle down is adopt a dog from pound three years ago, longest relationship I've had in last ten years
Other than that life is pretty much same, talking and playing games online with you mooks.
Then: first year of my studies.
Now: first year of my studies.
In the middle: work and travels.
Wish I knew when I walked in here. I wasn't part of the first wave, though I'm sure it was pretty soon afterwards. In any case I've been doing the same thing for like 20 years now.
1. I think Daniel A had a heart attack or maybe a stroke.
2. Yes, I was tempbanned for mocking his death. Good memory. :P
I can't believe how much some of us have accomplished in ten years. I can believe how little the rest of us have accomplished though. :P

I don't care to go to the sandbox a third time. I prefer to be with my family. In the last 10 years I have been to Kuwait, Korea, Antarctica, New Zealand and all over the States.

You've seen The Thing? Complete fiction.
My life compared to 10 years ago?
Different job.
Different city.
Different country.
More disposable income.
I had a negative net worth of about three hundred grand back then.
Well in the last 10 years I...
-joined the Crown's office
-bought a house
-got married
-moved to the Yukon (and then back)
-had two kids
Not bad for a decade.

Ever owned a house, dude?
In 2003 I had just come back from Sarajevo and moved to Prague in the fall. I was working on my bachelor thesis.
Ten years on, I've held several jobs since finishing my master degree, lived in Stockholm, been promoted into management at my current company, met a nice girl, bought a big flat with her, had a kid (10 months now), gone on paternity leave and stopped posting on Languish.
Will you marry her? :)

Good to see you again, man, it's been a long time. :)
10 years ago- 16 year old. Studying for my GCSEs, full of hope for the future, the world was my oyster, it was just a question of what field I would choose to study and make amazing strides forward in. Dangerously low on the BMI scale.
Now- Teaching 16 year olds. Failure in life, not even sure of being able to scrape a living in the future, it is a grim looking place for me and the world at large. Towards the top end of a healthy weight.
Is teaching 16-year-olds bad? They are still malleable enough that you can improve them, right? :)
