QuoteMichael Vick: 'Our pet is well cared for and loved'
Does he or doesn't he?
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick stirred up more questions of whether or not he owns a dog after he tweeted a photo late last week that appeared to include a box of dog treats.
Vick quickly deleted the photo from his Twitter account but not before the Philadelphia sports blog Crossing Board captured it.
To make matters worse, Vick was asked about his rumored dog ownership after Eagles practice Wednesday. According to NBC 10′s Dan Stamm, Vick wasn't answering any questions about dogs:
"I'm here to strictly talk about football," Vick told reporters after practice Wednesday when asked if his family had a pooch. "What goes on in my personal life is not to be talked about. What's most important right now is the Philadelphia Eagles and getting a win this Sunday."
In December, 2010 interview with NBC News' Mara Schiavocampo, Vick hinted at owning a dog one day:
"I would love to get another dog in the future [...] I think it would be a big step for me in the rehabilitation process. I think just to have a pet in my household and to show people that I genuinely care, and my love, and my passion for animals."
Vick told theGrio's Todd Johnson in July his new book Finally Free was a "last step" in putting his dogfighting past behind him:
"Just don't want to continue to talk about it anymore. I think there's more to talk about other than my wrongdoings and my failures. Let's talk about [my successes]. And that's what it's all about."
Vick probably prefers not to answer any dog-related questions in the future. This latest episode, however, will not slow those questions down one bit.
**UPDATE:
The answer is yes – Michael Vick does own a 'pet'. In a statement released by his publicist Thursday, the NFL's number one overall draft pick in 2001 admitted what many already suspected. Below is the statement via the Philadelphia Inquirer's Eagles reporter Jeff McLane:
"I understand the strong emotions by some people about our family's decision to care for a pet. As a father, it is important to make sure my children develop a healthy relationship with animals. I want to ensure that my children establish a loving bond and treat all of God's creatures with kindness and respect. Our pet is well cared for and loved as a member of our family. This is an opportunity to break the cycle. To that end, I will continue to honor my commitment to animal welfare and bean instrument of positive change."

Taking a break from the two guys just babbling at each other, I came across a Prisco "article" about Cushing's injury. Well, it's really just a bunch of still shots, but here you go:

I've seen some message board experts, etc, saying it was a shitty illegal hit, but I wasn't really sure since I didn't turn around and see it until Cushing was rolling around on the ground holding his knee. Illegal? Or no? After seeing the replays, I'm a homer and all, so I call it illegal and fuck that guy and all that.

He was fined $10,000, but that doesn't always mean it was necessarily illegal. er...if you know what I'm saying.
Not a fan of cut blocks, always has the potential for bad things at the last moment of contact. That's what looks like happened to Cushing: a cut block that went wrong.
Never understood why the Competition Committee hasn't gotten rid of it yet.
It looks like a pretty regular low block to me. Cushing isn't engaged or anything.
The Titans would be a much better team if they would wrap up.
Everything I have heard and read (outside of Matthews) says it was a legal and legit block. 2 ex-D-lineman, Mike Golic and Michael Strahan said the same thing.
There is questioning about whether it should be legal but I don't know how you change the rule to make that specific play illegal without making all cut blocks illegal. It was an unfortunate play, not much more to it, IMO.
It's definitely not a chop, which is what would be called if he were engaged. The question would be if it was outside of the tackle box, within some (five?) number of yards from the line of scrimmage, and if he was in front of the defender. I honestly can't answer the first two, since I didn't see the play.

I hope they don't rule the regular cut block illegal, since, you know, that would wipe out the whole Texans running game. :P
Going by middle school football...uh...a few years ago....what I was taught about cut blocking went like this (forum posting "art" incoming):
Say the play is going this way: <---------------
If the defender is going along with it, his legs are kinda going to be like this ---> o
o
You want to go after the thigh (knee heh) the arrow points to and trip him totally up, right? Again...middle school. ;)
Oh wow. Hasselbeck just bounced one off a DB.

I was a big fan of them when I played. I was an offensive guard and some of the defensive lineman were starting to outgrow me-- loved cutting those big fuckers before they had any idea what was going on. Never did it from behind, though.

Was it really? I mean, I guess there were a lot of Steeler fans in there, but wouldn't it be hard to have a lot of hate for the Titans? I mean I know it's a division thing, but during the time period when the Titans were actually good, the Texans were so pathetically bad that you really couldn't say they were rivals with anyone. Your team ruined David Carr's career. And these days, they're a second tier franchise at best. It'd be like me hating the Bengals.
You should save your hate for franchises that have had success in holding your team back (the Colts?) and then the teams that will try and stop the Texans from reaching the Superbowl through Goodell's cheating and who also have bandwagon piece of shit fans (Steelers, Patriots). And the Cowboys. Fuck those guys.

Of course. Chester Pitts and friends broke his brain.
Pitts wasn't a bad G. Until he broke his leg or whatever and his career ended.

He was one of the ones who actually lasted a while, which is probably why you remember him.
I know Neil doesn't watch college football, but David Carr at Fresno State was a true gunslinger. From his dropback to his delivery, he was the closest thing to a Troy Aikman clone I've seen yet. From a technique POV, the guy's mechanics were simply immaculate.
Just a damned shame he was a casualty to an expansion team.
Easy now. Carr looked like he would be a pretty good rookie, but he had some serious problems with touch, holding on to the ball, and generally doing some stupid things. It has been quite a few years now, and the first thing the guy does when he comes into a game is get sacked. Hell he even did this with ~the same line Schaub threw for around 5,000 yards behind (his first two years). Carr wasn't "broken." The dude is what he is.
E: Schaub's line included Pitts, Neil. ;) He really did last a while, again, probably why you remember him.

Quick question: since you people under the age of 25 have all been diagnosed with ADHD and/or Assburgers by now, what's the deal of taking one Adderall? I remember Ritalin would get you high if you took a few a time, but Adderall?
And why would the NFL consider it performance enhancing, if it's good enough for all you monkeys in high school?
QuoteTAMPA, Fla. -- Tampa Bay's defense was jolted Saturday when the NFL suspended cornerback Aqib Talib four games without pay for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing substances.
The fifth-year pro said in a statement released by the team that he took an Adderall pill without a prescription "around the beginning of training camp." He will not appeal the ban, which begins Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Talib was the 20th overall pick in the 2008 draft and is one of the team's top defenders with 18 career interceptions. He also will miss games against New Orleans, Minnesota and Oakland, becoming eligible to return to the active roster on Nov. 5, the day after Tampa Bay faces the Raiders.
"I have spoken with Aqib, and he knows that he made a poor decision that let our team down," Bucs first-year coach Greg Schiano said. "Certainly, other players will have the opportunity to step up while he serves this suspension."
It's the second suspension of Talib's career.
The 26-year-old was suspended without pay for the 2010 regular-season opener and also fined one additional game check for violating the NFL's personal-conduct policy. That discipline stemmed from an altercation with a St. Petersburg cab driver during training camp in August 2009.
"I made a mistake by taking an Adderall pill without a prescription. This is especially regrettable because, for the past several months, with Coach Schiano's help, I've worked very hard to improve myself -- professionally and personally -- as a player and a man," Talib said.
"I am truly sorry to my teammates, coaches and Buccaneers fans, and I'm disappointed in myself. I will work diligently every day of this suspension to stay in top football shape and be ready to help this team in the second half of the season. I have chosen to be immediately accountable for the situation I put myself in, which is why I will not exercise my appeal rights and will begin serving the suspension immediately."
The Bucs placed Talib, who has one interception and a team-leading seven passes defensed, on the reserve/suspended list. Defensive end Markus White was promoted from the practice squad to fill the roster opening.
There was no immediate announcement on who'll step into Talib's spot in the starting lineup.
Fourth-year pro E.J. Biggers, who sat out the first three games of the season because of injury, and seldom-used third-year pro Myron Lewis are listed behind him on the depth chart.
Yeah, I have no idea what it does. I assumed it was just a drug they gave to children for docility.

I read, and I have no idea if it's true, that the league doesn't release what the failed drug test was for, and that all the players say "Adderall" since so many kids are taking it that it seems normal. So the drug test may have been for steroids in reality.

Yeah. It's sort of shocking how the age of the Ravens defence being credible has ended. Now, instead of the D saying 'if you give us 13, we'll get you the game', now it's like 'if you give us 31, there's a fair chance we won't blow it'.
Maybe if Suggs comes back around Thanksgiving the boat will get righted. I worry about next week and the Texans.

A pass rush would really change things. QBs have 4-5 seconds to throw. At least then the Ravens D would be good at something, rather than the nothing they are currently doing.

It's pretty easy to dislike the Seahawks when the local affiliates decide that the Portland market is a suburb of Seattle so we get to watch their shitty games every week, even when other better games are on.
Don't blame the affiliates, blame the NFL.
After all, the NFL decided Baltimore was a Washington DC market for 12 years, so I feel your pain.
Although, one would think that Portland would at least get some SF/Oaktown love once in a while.

I believe a Boston sportswriter summed those unis up best when he wrote that it looked as if the cast of Star Trek:TNG beamed down and joined the USFL.

I thought we were talking about the Seahawks. All Patriot unis suck because the Patriots are awful and evil and tainted.

Nope it is 100% up to the local affiliates. At least that is what I have heard; to be fair the Seahwks get ratings so they do have a reason to show them. We do get a lot of Niners too, which was really fun those years they were combining for 3-4 wins a year.
So I heard Ray Lewis may have torn his triceps. (http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000080027/article/ray-lewis-lardarius-webb-seriously-hurt-ravens-fear?module=HP11_headline_stack) Any word n how long that would put him out for?

My bad. Yeah, Seattle's unis were cool back in the day.
Everyone in the NFC lost save for the Seahawks, who beat the Patriots. Today was a: good day. ^_^
Heh, I just noticed Beanie Wells is out again. Kid has been snakebit since that Youngstown st game.

Depends; even a partial tear could be the season this late in the game, if it's bad enough.
I feel ray ray's pain.
Yeah, it depends. I wonder if he hurt himself when he popped that kid.
Ray is pretty replaceable in a physical sense, but the mind on the field and the leadership in every sense is going to be bad if he misses any real time. Still, when he went down last year, the team really picked up their game.

Yeah, McClain filled in well for him last year, and Donnell Ellerbe has really picked up his game this year, he's out of Harbaugh's dog house since he's matured and grown a work ethic.
But where it hurts them the most is Ray's ability to call the defensive audibles on the fly; he's such a veteran and a game tape junkie, he simply sees things others don't before they happen. That's where it's gonna hurt them the most.
Nice start. :glare:

Yeah, that was pretty dumb.
I'm torn in this one. On the one hand, I've always liked the Texans, and am happy now that they've got their shit together. Also, the Falcons are the suck, and for them to be last unbeaten would be bad. On the other hand, it would help the Ravens if the Texans, being the only other team in the AFC with a winning record (assuming the soft Chargers lose tomorrow) were to lose.
Awesome sack dance by Watt, throwing the belt on the ground.

Yeah. If Denver wins tomorrow, there will be 7 teams with 3-3 records, and the Steelers and Colts at 2-3.

The D is squishy soft right about where Cushing would normally be.
E: Hey and they decided to talk about him now too.
This game might give me the excuse I need to hit the sack early tonight. Been dragging ass all day, and will probably be working late tomorrow tonight as well. :yuk:

Boy, Collingsworth, I really wish somebody had said that.
The Texans would not allow the Packers to get off the field without that touchdown. It's like the Texans have been infiltrated by the Detroit Lions.
Simultaneous possession?
Ngata, Lewis and Webb are all going into the MRI tube this morning. Late night chatter from the team is saying Lewis and Webb are definitely lost for the rest of the year, don't know yet about Ngata's MCL, who played on it throughout the 2nd half.
In better news, my new favorite NFL commercial:

Aaron Rodgers, woo! 49 points!
I missed the entire Bengals game yesterday as I was flying to the northwest corner of Yi-land. But the offense seems to have lost all its mojo and defense is just flat-out terrible. Losing both the DB and LB coaches from last year was devastating IMO. Sad thing is that one of them was avoidable.
So stick a fork in the Ravens eh?
And dammit the two whitest wideouts this side of Kevin Walter scored like 60 points on menin FF.

Nonsense. With adversity comes yada, yada, yada, etc.
Well with what 4 defensive starters out they might go 10-6 and lose in divisional. But Super Bowl????
It's Flacco time.
The only teams that can talk SB are the ones that are in a pole position to get hot in December.
But the one thing about this defense is, regardless of the numbers of players on the sidelines, it doesn't panic.
However, the fate of the season rests on Ray Rice and especially Joe Flacco now. Heavy is the unibrow that wears the crown.
So what you are saying is "Let's go O's!"
Laugh it up, fuzzball.
Too soon?
How'd that Manning cum taste the second time around? Better? Worse?
I'm going to need Peyton to match Rodgers' 6 TD passes tonight in LFFL. Ugh.
More likely than McGhee getting 6 TDs and broncos intercepting 4 passes and returning them for scores that I need to go to 5-1
Ugh, the chargers. I hate that team. Loathe Philip 'qb sneak' Rivers.
Sigh.

The discipline on this team must drive Peyton batshit at times.
Broncos D are just teasing me now.
I think someone forgot what team they're on.

Frankly, I've got a Manning boner.
Rivers, 4 ints. What a chump.
