Working on some costuming for Halloween, and just wondering where everybody stands on the uniforms. I'm opening up triple-voting for the indecisive; for me, it's a tie between the Monster Maroons and the DS9 Mk.II.
The Monster Maroons make the best dress uniforms, bar none. The DS9 Mk.II gets its place for daily shipboard duty- it looks smart, it's not complex, so it's not going to take a lot of valuable storage space, and unlike most of the other Trek uniforms, the department color isn't overbearing- if you imagine the colored bands as cords, an officer on rotation could use two undershirts and two pairs of bands with one pair of blacks.
Enterprise - because they look most like a standard jumpsuit as one would have in space with a central laundry providing everybody with clothing.

Agreed. It runs a close second for me for exactly that reason. The costume designer obviously started out by looking over NASA shuttle crew uniforms.
No question:

Followed by DS9 Mk2/TNG movies.
Also, where's the future uniforms on that poll? :P

I've always thought Star Fleet uniforms looked kind of dumb. /shrug

Well, I've always been partial to these outfits:

The AGT uniforms are definitely popular, but getting filed under "other" for only appearing in three episodes across three series. ;)
TOS, Enterprise, and the new movie ones are my current favorites.
TNG Mk II. Have you ever WORN a jumpsuit? So impractical!
I've always been partial to the DS9 ones. Especially the later version. Excluding the Bajoran eyesores, of course.
It all comes down to what you're used to, of course.
I grew up with the "monster maroons", so that was my single vote.

They're the most "navy" of them all, as far as I'm concerned.
Which is why Gene Roddenberry totally hated them.

I don't know about "navy". They certainly look like military uniforms, not jump-suits, but if I had to pick a real-life equivalent, I'd say they look an awful lot like:

minus the stetsons.

I never got how his "we're peaceful explorers" idea meshed with and armed StarFLEET which had clearly a military structure.

I've heard it said that it was more intended to resemble the coast guard than the navy. The book "Ship of the Line" illustrated this really well with the Bozeman's border patrol, depicting it as a cutter, not a naval warship.

You guys are trapped in your close-minded, conflict-ridden 20th century thinking, whereas Roddenberry was thinking in a super-happy, rainbows-for-all 23rd century mindset. You're just behind the curve.

I'm waiting for the Eugenics Wars to turn it all around, man.
Chicks looked great in the jump suits. Dudes looked like dorkwads.

Yeah, but if we're talking chicks, we should just go with TOS miniskirts.
Your POV is a reasonable one, but personally I like the crotch huggers better.

There was a TNG miniskirt, but I think it was worn only by Troi and only in the pilot.
Troi's season one minidress, sans the stupid bun. :mmm:
Say, BB, what kind of fitness requirements do the RCMP have?

Fairly tough fitness requirements. http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/recruiting-recrutement/rec/pare-tape-eng.htm if you're curious.
Why do you ask?
Some pear shapes in the pic you posted earlier, especially the chick in the front row. :hmm:

Those pants are NOT flattering to the thighs.
And fitness requirements are not the same as thinness requirements. My wife, once upon a time, was accepted into the RCMP, and she is best described as "curvy". :web:
Being thin might not be a requirement, but it sure helps. When I was a 150 lb high school freshman, I could run a mile in 7 minutes. Now I'd be doing well to get in under 13.

Again, if you're curious, start following the links. Strength is a significant part of the PARE test. It's not just about being fast.
Yeah, I think you're just looking at the weird pants.
