Title: Steam Summer Sale
Post by: Syt on July 12, 2012, 12:17:24 PM
. . . has begun.

I've picked up Deus Ex:HR for 7.50 - I have it for XBox, but I'm phasing out my console (which is why I'm also waiting for Dead Island to be a dirt cheap).

Also, they have the Paradox bundle (basically all Paradox games available on Steam - EU3 series, CK2, Magicka, Mount and Blade, Warlock, etc.) 82% off, for 50 bucks total.

I picked up the new Deus Ex cheap the other day.  Got the original and the crap sequel with it.  Might play the original before I try Human Revolution.

DX2 wasn't that bad

One of the things that made me chuckle was that one of the video screens in DX:HR shows a baseball game between Detroit (where the story starts) and Montreal (where the devs are from). Guess someone wasn't happy about the Expos moving to Washington.

I picked up Deus EX:HR, the Missing Link DLC, Legends of Grimrock and Terraria.  Just under $20.

Dropped $21 on the Civ 5 DLCs that add Polynesia, Denmark, Korea, and a few new wonders, as well as Saints Row: The Third. I've been getting my money's worth out of Civ 5 so I'm feeling good about the DLC and I've been waiting for a massive price drop (75% ) for SR3 for maximum wacky drunken fun at 1 AM on a Saturday night.

Then I dumped $25 into my empty Steam wallet and deleted my credit card info. Valve won't make me spend $100 on games I'll never play this time.  :P

I'm waiting for the Civ V dlc to be in the dailie deals. You should have too!

Got Saint's Row 3 also.

I never spent much money on the steam sales before, this time I'm spending an 100$.

Meh, it's 50% off for only $2.50 which is good enough for me. I want to be MIGHTY DENMARK right now. :seefor:

Rumor is there's a deal for Saint's Row 3 + all DLC for $15 later in the sale, but I figured I'll never in my life play SR3 enough to play all its DLC, so I'll save myself $2.50 there.

I've only played Saint's Row 3 for about an hour but holy shit is it amazing. I think I spent most of that time messing about in the character editor though.

Yes, I created a gold-painted fat Fabio look-alike who talks in zombie gibberish. Yes, I said he talks like a zombie, in that whenever he speaks in the cutscenes he makes these gutterable grunts and moans while the (correct) subtitles roll at the bottom of the screen. Like this: http://youtu.be/LSrb1twJTg8?t=6m25s

Thank you Steam for helping my Saint's Row 3 dream come to.

Space Marine's multi can be a hot mess. HOST MIGRATION. HOST MIGRATION. Some of the players need to get laid. WH40K ISN'T REAL.

When it is on, it is great. Especially when you can copy what the guy killing you had and smash his face in with a giant mallet. LOL, they get maaaaaaaaaaaad.

Payday: Heist is pretty fun with friends.  I wouldn't bother if you didn't have 3 others to play with.

So far:  Terraria, DX:HR+Missing Link DLC, Grimrock, Max Payne 1&2 (nostalgia alert), Alan Wake, Binding of Issac, Saints Row 3 for about $45.

I highly recommend Arkham Asylum to anyone who hasn't played it.

I bought Arkham Asylum and then City.  Great, great games.  I hadn't played a brawler since I was a teenager.  Simple to control, very satisfying, good variations in game play.  Best parts are where you hunt the armed thugs.  Watching them go from arrogant to terrified.  I'd play the first one first and avoid skipping it.

Is Civ5 without the expansion worth 10 Euro?

It depends. If you really liked Civ 4 and thought it was the pinnacle of the series, you may not like Civ 5 very much.

Personally, I could never go back to Civ 4. The hex system and combat are so superior to Civ 4's that if they go back to the Stack of Doom-based combat in Civ 6 I will likely never buy it. The culture/social policy track is a little more restricting than in Civ 4, but I rarely ever play for culture victories anyway. Plus I like being able to buy tiles with money. The AI has been massively improved since the game's release too, though I'm not sure how much of this is due to G&K and how much is due to patching.

If you're still really not sure, I'd say hold off until G&K goes on sale too. It adds religion and espionage to the game which really gives the game a lot more flavor.

I acquired it when it was out, and I quite liked it for a while. Did the quite nice mage guild questline, completed it, got named master mage, and then proceeded to move around in an unchanged world doing errands and shit.
People play it for immersion, but I think it lacks it.

If you liked any of the ES games, you'll like this one.  It pretty much has all the strengths of the other games, and few (if any) of the weaknesses.

As Tamas notes, you won't always be a great world-changer, but you can be if you want to be.  I find it more fun to just be a bit player on the fringes of big events.

My list'o'loot so far:

- DX:HR
- Bejeweled 3
- Terraria
- Civ IV complete (so I don't have to use my disks anymor - yes, I'm THAT lazy)
- Dead Island
- Binding of Isaac
- Batman collection (too cheap to pass up on, though I didn't install that Imposters crap)
- Company of Heroes pack
- Theater of War complete
- Frozen Synapse (anyone want my second license?)
- Orcs Must Die
- Cities XL (yeah, it's supposed to be crap, but how many city builders are there atm? Not gonna wait for new SimCity)

No idea when I'm supposed to play all that crap, though.

Whew i was feeling bad by
Saints Row 3
Max Payne 3
Red Faction Guerrilla
Dead Space 2
Alan Wake
and Bioshock 2

Is Just Cause 2 worth $3.74?

Yes. It's my favorite sandbox game*, much more fun then the modern GTA.

*Haven't played Saints Row yet.

Shoot Many Robots
Ys Origin
Saints Row 3

46.22$ (bought Civ G&K a GMG for 19.50)

Hoping Krater comes back as a daily/flash since it failed the Community vote & for a bigger rebate on Jade Empire

I like the Rail Simulator sale. If you buy all 100+ DLCs it'll set you back over €740, even though most of it is 50% off.

Oh yeah.  Game is a blast.  You fly around causing as much destruction as possible.  I do mean fly.  You can and often will steal jets and helicopters and if there aren't any, you have a parachute and a retractable grappling hook that allows you to para sail across the map.

I actually bought something!  I got the Total War pack, as I've never played any of the games.  Also, I've been in the mood for a game that at least touches on the Revolutionary War era.

The Witcher 2 enhanced edition is on sale for $24, although I can't tell if it's a steam sale. But the first was a blast, so it's worth it.

Two very different games.  I prefer the overall approach of the second one, but the combat is less good, IMHO.

That's a seriously fun game. Silly movie style racing, and some of the voice overs when you jump into a character are very funny.

The first half (till you get to the aliens) is pretty fun.

Completed L.A. Noire (didnt bother with side missions). Fun! I am not sure if I'll do a second run some time later, but it was easily worth the discounted price I payed for it.

Yeah I just wish they'd been able to add a bit more to it. Fun for what it was though.

Haven't played it yet.  Decided to play through the first one first.  You know, despite the crap graphics, awful voice acting and dodgy initial control setup, the game is still fun.  Problem is, I really don't like the "Good" guys.  They seem to be a mix of the Tea Party and the occupy movement.  I liked the UN guys better.  There was a DLC for Human Revolution.  Maybe that fills it out a little more.
