Odd. They've recently been going mental at us for some reason. I think they tried to levy a $1 million fine and expelled the ambassador a while ago.
The Telegraph's started a live blog. I give it five minutes before they demand we send in Kitchener

I think its because we did something to them- something about telling our banks to freeze their assets due to their nuclear programme or somesuch.
Strange this considering they just expelled our ambassador. Guess they figured that didn't speak to the common man enough.
Iran always has had a special obsession with seeing Britain as a real enemy though. They're stuck in the imperial days.
I don't think either the US or UK have an embassy in the country.
Interesting shadow of 1979, a group called the 'students for the Supreme Leader' or something similar, are claiming it's their responsibility. Their statement was apparently written in blood
Apparently a portrait of the Queen's been taken down. The Telegraph's magnificently outraged, the Daily Mail will go insane.
Ambassadorial integrity doesn't translate into Farsi.
Quote[The Muslim Students Followers of the Supreme Leader, who have claimed responsibility for organising the attack on the embassy, have issued a statement reportedly written in blood.
It reads:
Our people are not prepared to be humiliated any more under any circumstances and prefer a red death to a condemned life of misery. We are ready to be killed for our aims.
They have referred to the embassy as "another nest of spies that must be shown our wrath and hatred towards it".
They say the date of the action has been deliberately chosen to coincide with the fist anniversary of the assassination of Majid Shahriari, the nuclear scientist killed last year in a bomb attack. /quote]
Payback's a bitch.

That book has had a profound effect on the Iranian psyche as well as representing it's complexity.
Apparently a few of the 'students' were carrying ambiguously re-usable 'Down with you!' signs
Britain actually had an embassy in Iran?
I guess some people refuse to learn. It's as dumb as the US maintaining an embassy in the PRC knowing that the PRiCks haven't protected it in the past and won't in the future.

Reopened in 1988. Apparently it is lovely. Has massive parks and the property as a whole is the size of the White House + surrounding gardens.

Maybe the main function wasn't not to get stormed.

Or letting the Russians contract out the electrical work at the US embassy in Moscow. Oh wait.

They have marines guarding it? Should have gunned the protesters down.
I believe our ambassadors have the right to take some pot-shots at protesters and police.

No "maybe" about it, just as the main function of the ambassador isn't to not get murdered. :smarty:
However, not being stormed and not being murdered are minimal functions without which main functions are meaningless. :bowler:

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- France and Germany have both recalled their ambassasors to Iran for consultations following the attack on the U.K. embassy in Tehran, Reuters reported Wednesday. Earlier, the United Kingdom shut down the Iranian embassy in London and expelled all its staff in retaliation for the storming of the British diplomatic compound by an angry mob. The British government also shut its embassy in Iran and evacuated the staff, according to reports. In an official statement, France expressed solidarity with U.K. "Once again, the Iranian regime has just supplied proof of its low regard for international law. France condemns this flagrant and outrageous violation of the Vienna Convention," the statement said. Italy is also considering closing its embassy and plans to summon the Iranian ambassador to Rome to request guarantees for the safety of Italian diplomats in Iran, the news agency said.

Why, thank you! You are either being funny, in which case I know I did a good job because you were "insulting" it, or you were being serious, in which case I know I did a good job because you were insulting it. :showoff:
The only time you lack credibility is when you try to be credible.
UK pulled all its embassy staff out of Teheran and gave Iran 48 hours to pull hers out of London.
Apparently the French and Germans are leaving too, and Italy is considering doing the same.
