I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

Odd.  They've recently been going mental at us for some reason.  I think they tried to levy a $1 million fine and expelled the ambassador a while ago.

The Telegraph's started a live blog.  I give it five minutes before they demand we send in Kitchener

I think its because we did something to them- something about telling our banks to freeze their assets due to their nuclear programme or somesuch.

Strange this considering they just expelled our ambassador. Guess they figured that didn't speak to the common man enough.

Iran always has had a special obsession with seeing Britain as a real enemy though. They're stuck in the imperial days.

I don't think either the US or UK have an embassy in the country.

Interesting shadow of 1979, a group called the 'students for the Supreme Leader' or something similar, are claiming it's their responsibility.  Their statement was apparently written in blood

Apparently a portrait of the Queen's been taken down.  The Telegraph's magnificently outraged, the Daily Mail will go insane.

Quote[The Muslim Students Followers of the Supreme Leader, who have claimed responsibility for organising the attack on the embassy, have issued a statement reportedly written in blood.

It reads:

Our people are not prepared to be humiliated any more under any circumstances and prefer a red death to a condemned life of misery.
We are ready to be killed for our aims.

They have referred to the embassy as "another nest of spies that must be shown our wrath and hatred towards it".

They say the date of the action has been deliberately chosen to coincide with the fist anniversary of the assassination of Majid Shahriari, the nuclear scientist killed last year in a bomb attack. /quote]

Jet: So what kind of woman is she? What's Julia like?
Faye: Ordinary. The kind of beautiful, dangerous ordinary that you just can't leave alone.
Jet: I see.
Faye: Like an angel from the underworld. Or a devil from Paradise.

Zombie "Chinese Gordon" is more dashing.

A terrorist which starts a slaughter quoting Locke, Burke and Mill has completely missed the point.
The fact remains that the only person or group to applaud the Norway massacre are random Islamists.

That book has had a profound effect on the Iranian psyche as well as representing it's complexity.

Apparently a few of the 'students' were carrying ambiguously re-usable 'Down with you!' signs

Britain actually had an embassy in Iran?

I guess some people refuse to learn.  It's as dumb as the US maintaining an embassy in the PRC knowing that the PRiCks haven't protected it in the past and won't in the future.
The future is all around us, waiting, in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain.   -G'Kar

Reopened in 1988.  Apparently it is lovely.  Has massive parks and the property as a whole is the size of the White House + surrounding gardens.
