Title: NFL Draft Day Discussion: The Thread of Threads
Post by: CountDeMoney on April 25, 2009, 09:06:28 AM
OK, as I will be watching the draft from a friend's house, you won't be getting my polished pearls of wisdom in real-time.

However, I want this to be the Draft Discussion thread, so I may read when a certain Jets fan has an aneurysm.

Anyway, my thoughts re: the Ratbirds:
1.  I want Hakeem Nicks under my draft tree.
2.  Heyward-Bey is the local fan pick, but he's got no hands.
3.  If I don't see Nicks taken by the Ratbirds, I will not be upset with TE Pettigrew or a fine right OT, like that kid from Alabama.  Secondary choices would be LBs and a safety.
4.  Anyone else, I will most likely howl in pain.  HAKEEM!!!!! BE THERE FOR ME, BABY!

I'll be happy if the Texans take the best available LB or DB with their #1 (I probably wouldn't go out and start killing people if they made a good trade either).  Some site I was looking at last night had them taking Beanie Wells, and...nothing against Wells, but fuck that.  They can get some dude to run the ball when Slaton gets tired later on.  The secondary sucks ass and the LBs outside of Ryans are unknown quantites.

Cushing or Jenkins should be there at 15.  Maybe.  That other LB from SC...Maskgsdhgerybfs something with an M should be there around that time too.  Heh.

Safety?  Really?

If they draft a safety today, after sending Jim Leonard to the Jets, I will be baffled.  I could see a corner, but not a safety.

The Bungles need O-linemen badly, so I assume they will take a WR at 6.

Pats have 11 picks. I think we'll see a lot of defensive picks, LB, CB and DE. I think we'll probably pick up an RB and OL as well.

They'll trade them all for video cameras.

Steelers need an OL or DL. DL is fine but aging rapidly and OL always needs new talent.

Other than that probably a cornerback.

If the Jets draft Brendon Pettigrew I will most definitely have an aneurysm and with my dying breath mutter Damn you Money!

Jets need a WR, DL and a RB to replace Thomas Jones.  I really want to see them draft Moreno or Beanie Wells with Jarron Gilbert in Rd 2.

I really don't want the Jets to draft Sanchez or Freeman I think they're both busts.

The Ratbirds have two safeties in Reed and Edwards who suffered substantial neck injuries last year.  Edwards was kept out all season, and people don't realize how close Reed was to ending his career.

That, and they just plain need the depth.

I wouldn't spend a first-day pick on 'depth'.  That's what free agency and the lower rounds are all about.

Then again, I'm not Ozzie.

I want the Giants to improve at WR and LB, maybea add a little depth at the O-Line. If they come out of today with either Braylon Edwards or Boldin I will be happy.

I fucking hate Oakland.

Edit:  Maybe Jacksonville will fuck up and somehow not remember they desperately need a WR, or maybe they'll forget that Crabtree is sitting there, assuming, reasonably, that Oakland really meant to pick him.

I think I felt part of my soul die when I saw Sanchez put on that Jets hat.  I hope this guy turns out to be Matt Ryan and not Matt Leinhart like I think he will.

Seedy's not here, I thought?  But hey...FWIW (not much), I think that's a great pick for the Ravens.

Glad he can't go to Tennessee.  Not that Vince Young would ever be able to get a pass to him anyway.

Edit:  Eh. Britt.  He's taller, so he might be better able to catch the wild passes.

Not the sexy pick, but the smart pick.  Oher has all the makings of a stud.  And if anybody doesn't know about him, they should.  One of the best stories in football.

Thing is, the news is reporting that, had the Ravens been able to draft Pettigrew, an agreement was in place to trade Todd Heap and the 2nd round pick to Arizona for Boulin.  But alas.

And Oakland is a big bucket of fail.

Yeah Oher was i think Niners 3rd or 4th choice after Sanchez & Crabtree from what i've read.

Good old Raiders, then all the pundits were talking about their 2nd pick was estimated to be a FA invitee, not a 2nd rounder.

Sad that BA ran away so can't taunt him so.

I'm pleased the Bungles didn't go for a WR and actually picked an OT. Plus that Rey Maulagua guy in the 2nd round? Good.

Mike brown might have gotten a brain transplant.
