Title: Sleep
Post by: Josquius on September 14, 2011, 07:37:04 PM
I`m finding it rather hard to get all the sleep I need. I`m just not used to this working a full time job thing, to get a full 8 hours I should be going to bed at 11 but that still seems horribly early to me...especially considering on weekends thats pretty much when stuff starts happening.
I often find myself napping for 2 or 3 hours on the evening even. Which is...weird.
How much sleep do you get? How do you manage it?

I have no idea.  I'm not sure if I'm asleep now or awake.  Or both.  Or neither.

I'd say I average about 5 hours.  Sometimes a bit more, sometimes a lot less.  My sleep schedule is seriously broken and needs to be fixed at some point for my own health and well being.  Alas, but current job situation doesn't allow for it.

Six to seven hours. I try to get at least seven or more but that's not so often. I seem to wake up early anyway, or be keyed up and wake early.

Seven or eight normally.  Before I quit smoking I used to need about ten.  This is one of the best features of the non-smoking.

Ninish.  I actually need less.

I prefer 8, but I usually get 6-7. Voted 7

Something between 7 and 8, well in theory. I try to go to bed between 10 & 11, waking up at 6 but my daughter wakes up atleast once between 2 to 4 am so that kills my night.

If I get less then 7, I start falling asleep at my work computer. Once in a while I try to go sleep before 9.

Tyr, eventually you'll just be tired enough to do it. Sure every weekend fucks up the schedule but it's either that or becoming a zombie.

Once

About 7 usually.
The last few weeks though I've had trouble sleeping, often staying up until 4-5am and sleeping until noon.

7-8, normally, occasionally more and rarely ~6 or so when I just forget to go to sleep on time.

If you're having problems getting to sleep, Tyr, you need to get more exercise during the day and avoid naps entirely.  Try to establish a consistent sleep schedule as well, even if you obliterate it on weekends.

Same, almost to a word.

Hard to say, between 4 and 7 per night, but there are also top-up naps. I put 7 but, in general, would prefer to have slightly more.

During the week, on a bad night 5 and on a good night 7, with 6 as an average (which is what I voted). During the weekend I compensate and get 8-10 hours per night.
I'm recently trying to get more sleep during the week, and have had some moderate success about it, but if I get careless I tend to undersleep severely.

This. Getting just 6 hours of sleep kinda' grows on me though. Like this week. Getting more and more tired. Expect grumpy posting today.

Nowadays I get about 6-7 every weeknight, and about 7-8 or so on weekends.  But I need far less sleep now than I did about 5+ years ago.  This is an advantage of growing older.

I don't vary much between week days and weekends now. I turn in about 11.30 and wake up about 6.45. I've mostly shaken of the insomnia I suffered from and even if I get up in the night I can usually drop off again.

Sleep is for the weak. So I get lots of it. At least 8 hours a day, though I've gone as long as 14 before.

My pulmonologist, my cardiologist and I are still working out the bugs on my sleep disorders, but my new sleep apnea machine has been doing wonders.  I actually feel good when I get a good nights' sleep now, and everyone can tell when I don't.  I look and feel like I've been hit by a dump truck.

Last night, I went to bed at 10, and this morning I woke up at 5:30.  Wow.  I feel great.  On nights when I fall asleep on the sofa at 1am, and wake up at 5sm...well, not so good.

Unfortunately, I've always been a night owl, so that's a habit that takes time to break.

Formerly around 4-5 each night, but there've been more nights with more sleep since I started on antidepressants, so it's probably getting up around the 6-7 hour mark now.

The last few years have been awful when it comes to sleep quality, so much that I've decided not to work most evenings because I just couldn't handle it. I get around 4 hours on workday nights. I survive on naps and weekends.

I don't wake up feeling rested whether I sleep 5 or 10 hours. Funnily, I typically feel better after 4-5 hours than after 7-8 though I quickly need to sleep again later during the day.
If I get to sleep until I wake rather than when the alarm goes off I get somewhere between 8-9 hours unless I've been pulling a lot of late nights over the week.
So in essence: It varies. Typical work night I try to get in at least 7 hours.

Slargos, like Cdm, you probably suffer from some sort of sleep apnea.

I have a tendancy to snore. I don't think it's apnea, but it's a definite possibility. Snoring might be enough.
I'm starting a strict diet and exercise regimen and perhaps it will sort me out.

I may have it too. I have been waking up very tired for the last few months too. And I sleep for 7 hours or so.

I mean, I sleep for 7 hours and more but usually wake up tired and feel sleepy a lot during the day. I'm edgy and prone to aggressive reactions. And have always had problems with breathing through my nose due to deviated septum or something.
