I've just been for my annual eye check-up and I've finally got to the point where I will shortly need reading glasses as well my distance/astigmatism pair. So it's a cord round the neck, bifocals, or peering disapprovingly over a half-moon pair in the next year or so for me :weep:
How's your eyesight? Got glasses/lenses or do you suspect you need some but are in denial?
My eyesight, despite a lifetime at a computer screen, thankfully remains intact.
My hearing on the other hand...
Well, don't do bifocals, you are way too young for that! Reading glass is perfectly okay though :)
Apart from this cylinder thing which keeps switching here and there somewhat, my eyesight has been practically stagnating for about a decade now, the worsening of it has been marginal. Which ain't too bad considering I work and play with computers.
Glasses since High School. Too much Atari 2600.
I'm myopic since 1979. I use glasses at home.
Outside those closer to me it nobody knows I have bad eyesight, thanks to that strange miracle of modern science called "contact lenses".

Unless you are a user yourself, you can't notice them unless specifically looking VERY closely at the eyes.
Modern lenses aren't like the old glass ones that made our eyes resemble those of a frog.
My eye sight has been steadily going downhill since high school. This August I got a restriction put on my license that said I must wear glasses while driving. Before that, I typically wore my glasses while driving but was not required to. :Embarrass: The last few years my eye sight has really gotten bad, to the point where without my glasses I find myself talking to to strangers thinking they are acquaintances and getting into the wrong car in the parking lot. Refuse to get contacts though.

I have glasses, but I don't need them except for the computer. I can see perfectly, but one of my eyes is lazy and can't make a proper focus from short to long distance and back. So I got headaches when I don't wear them.
Otherwise, I'm fine.
My eyesight is awful. I can read a book without my contacts, but reading things on my monitor is problematic. Anything beyond a couple feet is a blur.
I need glasses for distance slightly but I never wear them - actually I lost my only pair.

Yep. My eyesight is horrible.
-0.5/-0.25 or thereabouts. Not much, but having glasses pay off when I'm at the movies or the theater, want to read street signs on the other side of the street etc.

Same here, except that I'm never putting things on my eyeballs.
Nice job with the Now Show meme.
And I'm the "in denial" group. I have about -0.5 but refuse to wear glasses since can't be arsed/look goofy in all I tried.
Myopa.

Wait, you posted pictures in some trendy Mad Men specs. What changed your mind?
I'm only -0.5 in one, -1.0 in the other , but the -2.0 cylinder (astigmatism) is what screws me. My specs give normal-sighted people vertigo.
My near-sightedness is just +1.0 and I can focus in a beat, so I'll just keep an eye on that, pun intended, for a bit.
My left eyesight is not as sharp as it used to be, but I don't need glasses yet.
I got glasses for distance about ten or fifteen years ago. Also for reading, though I can still read most print ok it's usually not very comfortable.
As I've gotten older, apparently print has been made so much smaller! ;)
Other. Good in one eye, bad in the other.
In theory, my glasses even out my vision, but in practice, the doctor patches them as "we need to protect your good eye, since if something happens to it, you're legally blind."
Myopic mother fuckers. No surprise.

I'm fairly certain there is zero connection between poor vision and metaphorical short-sightedness.

I was referring to the heightened nerd concentration, but now that you bring it up..... :hmm:
Eyesight is still quite good after...hmm...about 4 or so years after getting the PRK surgery. Last exam I had was about a year ago, and was still at 20/15.
Though I expect reading glasses will come, they say that PRK/Lasik does nothing to correct that inevitability.

My bf told me I look goofy. :P
I don't wear glasses though they'd be helpful. I'm not really in denial, I just don't want to spend the money on an easily breakable, losable item. Eventually I suppose I'll have to, however. I'll crash that car when I come to it.
Myopic since mid-1980s, always had the same correction (-1.50/-1.25) ever since, until February 2011, when after some pretty bad headaches I went for a control and discovered myopia was going better. Now I have -1.00/-1.00 correction.
Aging is good!
L.
20/800 bitches.
Also, I have pretty bad astigmatism.
-6.25/-7.5
and it keeps getting worse... :(
I've been wearing glasses since I was a little kid due to myopia, to the point that having glasses is second nature to me at this point. I used contacts for a while, but I developed a slight adverse reaction and reduced its use just for sports and going out. After a while I just stopped using them altogether.
I have an appointment next week with my oculist, and I expect to get a prescription for new lenses, as the ones I'm currently using are from 2006. I'll take the opportunity to get a slightly heavier frame, as the one I have right now is so light that it can get blown away in strong winds.
Theoretically I qualify for laser surgery, but that's simply not going to happen.

This is pretty much the same as me. My right eye is actually better than normal, so I can see just fine. My left is about -3.75 and started bothering me a lot in the last few years with increasing computer usage. I just got glasses again this year. I had them for a while in my teens when the problem first came up, but stopped wearing them as they weren't worth the bother. Now my eyes hurt almost immediately if I don't wear them.
That reminds me, I need to get a pair myself. My current glasses are 4 years old.

Ah. Not exactly a common connotation for the word myopic.

Indeed you do. Then maybe you won't get mugged as much. :P
Almost perfect. But I recently got checked and apparently could do with some glasses for lectures/presentations/driving, that sort of thing. But it's only -.25 or something.
