Heading back there this summer, won't get back 'till the 13th.
Air China 126 and 179 to Manila on the 29th, Air China 180 and 125 on the way back.

PM your contact info before you go Timmy. An adopted Korean-American chick I know is going to be in Korea for six months (Osan IIRC) and I wanted to introduce you two.
She's pretty cute too.
Hey, I was thinking of either going to Philippines or Thailand next Feb. Where are you going / have you been to in the Philippines, Timmay? Have you made it to Boracay?

When she gonna get here, I'm probably going to have to go home in October. It's hard to get another job out of sequence, especially with the way the government's been jerking the budget around. I'll probably have to wait for the spring semester to begin to go back.
Why only six months? What's she doing?
Warn her about the old people, if she can't speak Korean they're going to be massive xenophobic dicks and explode into tirades on how she's betrayed the Korean race. It be better of her to just pretend she's Chinese.
I'm maybe an hour to an hour and a half away from Osan so I can definitely meet her.

[Hipsterhat]Boracay is for the sheep. I'm heading for Palawan, the last frontier[/Hipsterhat]
He he.
She's leaving here Sept 5 or 6. Six months is some kind of weird Holt gig for ex-orphan adoptee kids. Revist the motherland while teaching some English.

So what all is there to do there that it's worth visiting twice in the space of a year or two? I like beaches and dissolute living, but not for more than a few days.
And I don't mind being one of the sheep from time to time. Boracay does look great in the pictures. My interests are so esoteric for the most part compared to most people's that it's nice to just have dovetailing interests with the Common Man from time to time. Though I suppose if I had to describe my ideal trip, it'd include some mix of museums, beaches, historical sites, and fun girls. :hmm:
Rather you than me.
Wouldn't fancy going there this time of year at all, already dreading Japan enough.

You can easily find Indian, Chinese, Japanese, French, Thai, and Italian food in many different cities across the world. There are few Filipino restaurants around. There are good reasons for this. Vietnamese, Thai, Indonesian etc are all miles ahead.
I also grow up eating food prepared by Filipinos. None of them are good.
News report 41 dead in tropical storm on Philippines.
Delayed one hour, no plane in site with ten minutes to that new deadline. <_<
I've only been to Manila and that wasn't a very nice place (unless you like street children trying to poach your wallet all the time). Try get out of there as fast as you can, I hear the rest of the country is a lot better.

Go to Mongolia. Even in summer it barely cracks 80, and in the winter, you'll forget what it ever meant to be warm. :)
Plus it has good food, clean air, lovely scenery, and friendly people.
Ran into one of your homeboys Seedy, a 48 year old Drama teacher from Baltimore. Despite the huge rosary he had hanging from his neck he invited me and my friend to go whoring with him. :yuk:

Dunno if Christians have a similar feeling, but I've recently heard that supposedly among the Muslim military who travel to Bahrain, or are our guests here in the States, that "Allah cannot see over the water".

We know. If you're not going to take advantage of the only thing the Philippines are good for other than interdicting sea lines of communication between the DEI and the Home Islands, why didn't you just give your ticket to me?
Although admittedly I'd probably have the same lame objections you do. Thanks a lot, education. <_<

I kid, I kid. I actually have no interest in pursuing whores either, but in my case it's more out of STI concerns rather than moral ones. :goodboy:
Left our hostel at 4am to catch a cab to the airport. It's in a rather shady area, but it's okay in the day. We got mobbed by like a dozen kids trying to grab our stuff. Most were about 10 years old with maybe a couple of 13-14 year old ringleaders. They were obviously expecting to be dealing with drunks and were quite surprised with our resistance. I flung a couple of kids out my way like ragdolls and then Mat hulked out like he was going to clobber them and they backed off enough for us to get in a cab.

Yeah getting hoarded by kids happened to me as well. I took a walk and had 2 pick-pocket attempts in 10 minutes, then I came to a narrow and dark passage and was jumped by 3-4 kids. Managed to run away though. Lonelyplanet descibed the area I was in as one of the safest places in Manila.
Now we know how many 10 year olds you can beat up :D
