Title: Will the US raise the debt ceiling in time?

August 2nd is the projected time for the money running out, right?

Will the debt ceiling be raised in time? Yes/ no? And why do you think so? And then what will happen?

Tea Partiers probably want to intentionally stick it to the Chinese debt holders.

Will the debt ceiling be raised in time?

Yes, they will do it and with all the theater and glory reminiscent of Rome. With the exception of assassinations of course.

QuoteAnd why do you think so?
Neither party wants to commit political suicide.

QuoteAnd then what will happen?
Life will go on as usual until they cook up some other crisis.

I see them all in their glory and pagentry. There on the hill, with their buildings of white stone and marble. So beautiful, yet so corrupt. Once a bright fire now nothing more than a fading ember. Oh Rome, Oh Rome........ :blurgh: :blurgh: :blurgh: :blurgh: :blurgh:

Just a regional thing, since they're based out of Atlanta.

I go out of my way to say "soda" around here.  "Pop" reminds me too much of West Virginia.

I admit a little part of me is curious to see what would happen if the ceiling wasn't raised in time.  If it weren't for the small problem of having to live through whatever the consequences might be, it is an interesting economic experiment.

There is a plan that Congress may/should vote on today, apparently. But I'm having serious doubts that this will get done in time. Or if a plan/budget is even passed then it still may not satisfy the S&Ps of the world and the US interest rate may get raised anyway. I may have to retreat to my bomb shelter until this all gets sorted out!   :tinfoil:

He means the Ohio Valley.  Roughly "Ohio, eastern Indiana, Western Pennsylvania, and northwestern West Virginia" per wikipedia.  Claimed by France (and Great Britain, and the Iroquois) and lost after the French and Indian War.
