Title: NCAA 12
Post by: MadBurgerMaker on July 12, 2011, 09:11:03 AM
So yesterday I decided I needed football a lot, said "fuck it," and traded in Madden 11 and NCAA 11 to preorder this.  I'm supposed to go pick it up in an hour.

New features:
3d grass, coaching carousel (start off as a coordinator if you want), collision based tackling, very customizable conferences in dynasty mode, some new stuff in superstar mode, other stuff.  Whatever.

Screenshot:

Ralphie is in there too.  All other mascots suck and aren't worth mentioning.

I don't really know what else to say.  The demo has been out for a while I guess, but I haven't gotten around to playing it, and it's supposed to be a pretty old build anyway.  It's an NCAA football game.  It's not going to be radically different from the previous version.

Anyone getting this?  If you're a PS3 type, let me know and you can kick the shit out of me online sometime.

e: Oh...my PSN name thing is madburgermaker.

Everything I know about it is contained in this little paragraph.

QuoteThe gameplay is NCAA. It feels a bit tighter; I like the new tackling and I don't see nearly as much suction and player phasing. But I've played a total of 3 games so it's merely early impressions at this point. I surprisingly love the new tackle button which at E3 I thought sounded incredibly silly. "It allows you to set your feet and make a sure tackle." Umm...ok. What this really does is effectively removes the DIVE button which is the worst thing to ever hit videogame football. This results in no more 5 yard flying tackles and that animation where the RB looks like he's been shot in the back, Willem DaFoe Platoon style. Now when you press X on defense your player sort of lunges forward and while I technically think you can call it a dive it's more of a controlled fall. It's much, much better.

Hm.  Nice.  That does indeed sound better than a button that makes your dude dive 5 yards for a tackle.

I needed a system update too, it seems, so I'm waiting for that now.  I also seem to have gotten a code for Pro Combat uniforms for pre-ordering from Gamestop.  Right on, I guess.

Edit: TCU, Boise State, Ohio State, Pittsburgh, and VaTech are the unlocked uniforms.  Apparently, there are more you can unlock if you play the demo.  Meh.

That's good then. It comes out today in the US. Here, sometime in the next week. I guess a couple of weeks for Europe?

Picked up my pre-order copy today at Gamestop.  When I saw that they weren't including WVU's Pro Combat uniforms, I almost canceled my pre-order.  But it's NCAA--  I don't think I've skipped getting it since 1997 (yes, I'm a sucker since the games are nearly identical each year, so what).  So I'm just telling myself it's part of their 2-year probation...

I'm tempted.  I haven't bought an NCAA game in 3-4 years but I haven't powered my 360 on in probably 8 months.

Something might be wrong with the coaching carousel.  I just got shitcanned after going 20-6 with two bowl wins (Humanitarian and Hawaii) and a conference championship in two years at UTSA (WAC).  All goals were met, and for the most part vastly exceeded, but for some reason my job security was constantly hovering around 50%.

Then NC State (6-8 record, 80's in all categories, so not an awful team) hired me.  So...now I'm a coach in a BCS conference.  After being fired by UTSA.

:D  It's really weird.  I'm pretty sure UTSA would be falling all over themselves to keep a coaching staff that put up 10 wins in the first two years the team was in 1A.

Anyway, I think I'm going to start over and use the air raid playbook.  Funslingin.

Okay the air raid is boring, even BYU's version with good running sets.  I wonder how the option is in this game.

Edit: Oh also recruiting is still slow and kinda lame in-game.  A way around it is to run a 1 player online dynasty so you can do that on the computer.  Much MUCH faster and easier for recruiting, a bit slower between weeks.

Madden this year is actually looking amazing.  They finally got their shit together and re did franchise and superstar modes.  The guy who was in charge of it worked on NFL Headcoach before, so a lot of the elements from that are in it.  I was all prepared to toss Madden by the wayside till I read about that.  As for NCAA 12, my friends and I are thinking of starting a league.  We each pick a shitty to mediocre team in different divisions and try to build them up to contenders.  I haven't decided who to choose yet for my team.  I need to see the overall ratings.

Idaho?  They're a C overall with a C+ defense and C offense.  Bonus: They play in that tiny little dome.

Edit:  If you move the top of the WAC to the MWC like they'll be doing, Idaho is in pretty good shape to win games too, although LaTech is the best remaining overall team IIRC.

Can
Can't recruit for shit in Idaho though.  You need to find a shitty little school in a recruiting hotbed; I got Army (NY) turned around real quick in the last version I played.  San Jose State was another good one.

Idaho has a California pipeline, so they'll recruit there pretty well.  They've got players from all up and down the west coast though.  San Jose State is a D overall, and seems worse than that.  They're who I'm doing the one player online dynasty with.  I don't know...sometimes a team is almost too awful, and it ends up being a chore instead of fun.  Sure, it could just be the shitty mood I'm in today, but I don't like using Eastern Michigan either, and IIRC, they're the only other straight D team out there. The teams who's games vs. "FCS West" are a tossup.

Another good one is Central Michigan, who has dropped off a bit since LeFevour left and they hired a coach from Michigan State.  You can go absolutely apeshit with them. Just be sure to move them back to the spread offense (or something similar) that brought them so much success and that pretty much every starter was recruited to play in.

Oh my.  Just beat Nevada with San Jose State 23-22.  20 points in the 4th Q, including a TD pass with 0:05 left, no timeouts, and the clock running from a failed QB sneak the previous play.  It was only from the 3, but still.  Nevada had been roughing my offense up until the 4th, when I went exclusively no huddle and all pass (except for the QB sneak that failed miserably and the 2pt conversion that I would have challenged if I could).  They blitzed a DB and LB and left one of my 5 WR's (this particular one is actually a CB haha) wide open just standing on the goal line.

Play of the game?  Some other TD pass.   The game winner got a "Home Grade" of B+.

Interesting how a video game can make your morning coffee taste better, and make the fact that you're way behind on work...well....who cares?  There's football to be played.

Edit:  Eh heh heh: http://www.easports.com/media/play/video/81157635

Doesn't really look like much without a scoreboard on the screen.  Also, I just noticed that W put SJSU over .500 all time at 452-451-37.  Heh.  I'm going to skullfuck New Mexico State.

The video game gives, and the video game takes away.

I was absolutely MURDERING Southern Mississippi.  My running back, on my first offensive play of the game, ran 80 yards for a TD.  On my second, he ran 60 for another one.  On and on it went.  Dude had 4 TDs and something like 280 yards at the half.  My QB had some obscene number of passing yards (200+) and 3 TDs, and only one incomplete pass at the half.  Every starter had that red pulsing circle under him.  The linemen were pancaking everyone on the snap, then running forward and destroying the next guy they came across.  It was amazing.  I was cackling like a crazy person.  Winning 48 - 0, my second string came in to start the 3rd, and my backup RB immediately had back to back 20 yard runs.  As he was getting up from the second one.....

.....the game froze.

WELP

I'm thinking about dropping it down to freshman difficulty (this was on AA) and cranking up my sliders and seeing if I can replicate it, but the domination was so complete, I don't know if it will happen.  It certainly wouldn't feel the same.

My spoiled 5 year old nephew saw a commercial for NCAA 12 and started pestering his parents non-stop to buy it for him.  Doesn't matter that he wouldn't be able to tell any difference between 12, 11, 09, etc. other than the actual year number; he thought the commercial was cool so he insists on playing it.

Well, some wise-ass in the family told him I had it, so he's been calling me asking to borrow it.  Sorry, dude.  Help yourself to NCAA 09 or 10, but no kid is getting his grubby hands on my NCAA 12 until I've had some time to play through a few seasons.

Only way I can think of doing it is to start the dynasty with a team, then scroll over to Coach Central, go into the Coach Info thing, and create a new coach, etcetcetc.  Once you're done, you'll have two/however many teams in the Dynasty Central tab.  Kinda clunky this year.
