Interesting. Thanks for the heads up on King of Dragon Pass.
So far, my favourite iPad game is Battleheart. I had good fun with that. What else are you guys playing?
If all goes well, my first iPad game should be out in January some time; though I don't think it's the kind of game that appeals to languishites. I might make a languish friendly game after that though.

For those who liked the Bang! card game, the ipad app is nifty.
Flight Control is free today for both apple thingys.
Civilization Revolutions for ipad is 2 bucks for now.
I do appreciate the Ed Anger edition of Hipster News.
As I'll probably end up buying an ipad 3
Whoever decided in Civ:Rev that Mongols get a free city when they take over a barbarian encampment didn't think that through enough. Wowzers. Rape city.
I would like the Civ series a lot more, in general, if it had the capacity to represent the decline of civilizations and not just their rise. Some colonial strife would be welcome as well.
Rhy's and Fall of Civilizations mod does it for Civ IV, I'm sure there's something similar for Civ V (haven't played it)
edit: fall of civilizations, that is, not colonial strife
Combat Mission for ipad:

Also Imperium Galactia 2 and Spaceward Ho! out.
Hey, I bought an Ipad 3 on Friday, and spenta lot of time in the weekend trying some of the converted euro games.
Ticket to Ride conversion is awesome, gonna' start MPing it a bit probably.
Imperial is almost like a proper strategy game - you invest in WW1-era great powers via bonds, gain control of them as such, and score points and profit based on their success in conquering stuff on a European map. Almost like Diplomacy With Finances
Ascension - deck-building borefest
Somethingshima Hex - not sure what's all the fuss about, but a good enough game
Forbidden Island - fun little game, quite family-friendly.
ONE OF US! ONE OF US!
Kingdom Rush is a good tower defense type game.
I'm going to suppress my Battlefront dislike and get the Combat mission app as soon as my Ipad charges up.
Spaceward Ho! was a great game.
I'm working on an iPad game right now. I am confident that it will not appeal to the core Languish demographic whatsoever. I will include a languish reference or two, however.

So... what type of game experience is missing from the iPad?
http://toucharcade.com/2012/10/15/build-your-dream-ponyville-in-gamelofts-my-little-pony/
Seriously, strategery that isn't a dam tower defense game.
There are a fair number of hex and grit style games out now, aren't there?
And there's at least one semi-decent RTS out there too, and a few space exploration/ colonizing type games as well.
So what level of crunchiness and what type of interface would you like to see?
Real-time or turn based?
Any particular flavours (fantasy, WWII, sci-fi, medieval, colonial, ancient... I'm assuming not My Little Pony etc style) you favour?
How much building versus battling?
How important is versus play?
What would be an acceptable way to pay for the game?
The place I'm at is not going to be making strategy games, I don't think, but there is a not insignificant chance that I'll get involved in some start up or side project or other company where we might make a strategy game... so consider this preliminary marketing research.
What would you like to see?
Hex based wargames. They are coming too slow for my taste.
Now this is just me, but I don't care about multiplayer. I don't care for the mass of unwashed plebs.
As for price, 10 and less. Siltherene charging 20 bucks for Battle Academy? Yeah right.
What is it about hex based wargames you like?
That they feel like the old hex boardgames? That they have some depth in strategy? That they seem more "real"? That you can take your sweet time playing them? Something else?
Stop answering for free, Ed.
Even EA is nice enough to offer something in exchange of market research.

Anyhow, the odds of EA putting out a niche game are pretty low - they're trying to do a +1 on Zynga.

Levee En Masse

It actually ships with 2 of the original ones (and the 3rd one's due as well), but the main game was a 3D unreal engine type thing. I guess it makes sense that it's a port from the console version (I never played it); did the console version start in a pseudo Scottish village where everyone spoke with really fucking obnoxious Scottish-Irish-Australian accents?

1967 mission into Laos. Greased a Mig-17 and a Thud cluster bombed the fuck out of the target. Whores on the house back at base!

The new Xcom coming to iPad. Supposedly mostly like the pc version.
Real Racing 3 is the first iPad game I'm addicted to. It's freemium too, and so far it's been quite easy to stay on the "free" side of it.

Informative. Oh, did you just get an iPad?
I find myself periodically addicted to Phantom Leader. Neat game.
If any of you have that really great Battle of the Bulge war game for the iPad, I'd be up for some head-to-head action. Playing against the computer is boring. My Game Center name-thingy is Frank Starman.

Patton AI is just plain stupid. I think I could re-take France with the Patton AI opposing me.

Of course. Although I am not so sure - it was pretty touch and go there for a while, I was afraid I was going to lose a couple Panzer divisions out of supply.

That was a great first game Berk. I really thought I was going to lose but things turned out differently. Then I got a lucky roll in the sector south of Bastogne and I halved your victory points :showoff:
Really great game though. Allies really get the crap beat out of them until after the 22nd or 23rd. Then it's a race against time because the Axis VP threshold drops daily. I felt I had to be more aggressive than usual. It worked out I guess.
Yeah, you literally got one half of your entire games elimination VPs in one roll of the dice. 5 hits in a combat that killed off three Panzer divisions. Shame on me for not getting them out of their.
It was a very good game. Lets see how the next one goes...

It's out. Quite nice, though the AI isn't too convincing, or I am too awesome.
If anybody feels like being schooled in turn-based WW1 dogfights, my nick is Tarsyk.
Also, Eclipse is rather nice. It is almost an Euro in terms of the very streamlined and elegant design goes against immersion for a degree, but still cool.
err, apparently there is no MP function yet :(
I am having great fun with Eclipse. The only issues I have is that it is really TOO faithful to the boardgame, which detracts from it as a online MP game.
I suspect, for example, very few of the pick up MP games will ever finish. People will start losing, get bored, and simply never do their turns.

Odd. Our Pax Porfiriana game is going so smoothly, I've never would have thought there are people who stall games forever.
:P
I did not simply not do my turn, and certainly not because I was bored or losing.
I van't get the damn program to run, I said so, and said you guys should find someone else. So blow me, d-bag.
Who has Eclipse besides me and Tamas? Would love to get a Languish game going.
Tamas, that biplane game looks really damn good. And MP is coming. I have already been sucked into buying the Brit campaign pack.
This is the kind of game that really does shine on this format. I hope there is more like this coming.

I would suggest we make a game thread and post in it, including a brief recap of each move. The inability to really see what your opponent did is very annoying.

Anyone else want to play the Bulge game? Berkut has lost too many times and grown bored of it.
I would definitely drop my rating of it from a 5 to a 4. The presentation is outstanding, but the rule mechanics are kind of lame and overly constraining.

Mini Warriors is a fun little free to play strategy game. Upgrade your warriors, and place them on the field for battle. The monetization is not obnoxious at all either, which is nice. I've been playing it for a few days now and think it might be up some Languishites' alley.
Best iPad game for me since Battleheart.
I spoiled myself with a 15 dollar itunes card and bought Drive on Moscow and Sid Meier's pacific airplane wargame.
Both on sale. :)
How is the pacific game?
I got his WW1 air game, and found it initially very cool, but in the long run dissapointing.
Love to get a game of Drive on Moscow going though...
I like it, but I'm only a couple missions in. You can still get into that annoying endless circling dance of boredom though.
But you can turn the chick pilots off at least. And no IAP's. 2.99 gets you the whole thing.
