Oh wait, no you don't.
Quote from: Newt"I have two grandchildren: Maggie is 11; Robert is 9," Gingrich said at Cornerstone Church here. "I am convinced that if we do not decisively win the struggle over the nature of America, by the time they're my age they will be in a secular atheist country, potentially one dominated by radical Islamists and with no understanding of what it once meant to be an American."
Spoken by Newt (what a good guy he is!) at the Cornerstone Church (famous for the fundy there saying God created the Holocaust in order to make the Jews form Israel). Yeah, he sure is a decent guy.
So is it secular & atheist or radical & Islamists. You have to pick.
I think we'll get the radical atheists, as secular Islamists don't exist.
I'd rather have the moon worshippers over Dawkinsfuckers.
And Newt is considering running for President?? With this kind of thinking and statements on his record?
Well, Bush the less worse one claimed that atheists are not real Americans (or something to that effect). So, my guess is that attacking atheism during election campaign is not a vote loser in US.

Especially attacking the secular atheistic radical Islamists.
Face it: people who would vote for Newt are not the kinds of people who could figure out the contradictions in his statements. Whether they number enough to get him the nomination remains to be seen.
I have to dislike Republicans because of Newt? :o

Yes. Newt = Republicans. If you're a Republican, you're Newt.
And it's not fair. I don't want to be Newt

Fair or not, you've been effectively newtered. :(
Tough, he is yours, you got him whether you like him or not.
It is like everyone claiming that there aren't any real moderate muslims - unless you actively disavow the Newt, you support the Newt.
Hell, BB was just saying the other day what a swell guy he was...

I disavowed Newt a while back, but he does get props for triggering your atheist rage :P
I liked mid-90s Newt better. He should start cheating on his wife again.
You folks are just haitin' on newt because he's beautiful and successful,

My assumption is that as soon as she bored him (which probably was the case like two weeks after the wedding), he started doing that again.
I think America has run its course. Time to board it up, write it off and try somewhere else.

The latter alternative offers more clarity and less complicated choice.
Secular atheists and their grey areas.
Anyhoo, my assumption having read this quote from Nootie is that he is really a lot stupider than he's sometimes given credit for, or he doesn't really want to be elected President and is just running to get some public exposure to be used in some other venture he's got planned.

I suspect that he's actually quite intelligent, but simply doesn't care enough about his integrity to avoid making playing-to-the-base commentary that even he knows is bogus. His running will almost certainly succeed at selling more of his books.
Maybe Turtledove should run for President. :hmm:

Book deals and his own talk show, presumably.
He's just jealous of Glen Beck.

I'd vote for him.
President Turtledove would be a hoot at every State of the Union Address.
"My fellow Americans,
There wasn't a nuclear war between the US and USSR in 1967 but.... what if there had been?"
*two hours later*
"...and that's why we were never able to send a man to Mars. But suppose that Martin Luther King had shot James Earl Ray instead of the other way around, and Stonewall Jackson had invented the atomic bomb..."

Indeed.
The radical Islamists would be far happier in a nation where the Christian right has their way...

You know Gingrich has written AH right? One was about the gun toting people of Kentucky defeating an SS commando raid on the Manhattan Project.
... so e's like a political, womanizing Tim?

Yes, that's exactly the reason I started making Turtledove jokes.
Anybody read his books? I had assumed they were ghost written.
I've read all three of the Civil War series and two of his political books. He was, I believe, only the historical reference of the ACW books as Forstchen did all the writing. They actually weren't terrible, but they were fairly predictable and only had a handful of great scenes.
The political books are firmly in the realm of hackery equivalent to what Hans wanted a while back--out-Democrating the Democrats in order to keep winning elections with little regard for principles.
